C EF 600/4 IS USM I

Hi all, my highest interest is a nature and wild life photo.
Till now I have used only crop sensor cameras with 300mm lens and 1.4x convertor if needed.
Now I do consider to buy first version of 600mm IS.
Does anybody shot this lens here? I have read few articles, reviews and seen pictures but does the weight of lens case really a troubles?

I have a 400mm f2.8 IS I and the weight is very similar. All i can say is it's going to depend on your physical size and strength, and really your motivation to carry the thing. i don't think the weight saving for the vIIs of the new super teles justify their prices (but other qualities may).

Honestly transport of the lens is the biggest issue for me. One you are onsite and shooting you forget about the weight. Getting on an airplane and traveling around the world with it plus other gear as hand luggage is another story. Like I said, you must be motivated.

I have never been a weight hunter, to carry few grams extra in not a problem for me. I do lot of hiking and climbing I´m used to carry heavy loads for quite time.

Traveling can be a problem, because of size. Often I have 2 bodies and 4 lenses including 300/2.8 in back pack and nobody so far checked its weight on airport.

I have the 600 IS II and it fits very nice into a Lowepro Flipside AW500 and that´s a good Backpack.
Fits in every normal plane, even the small ones flying between Fiji Islands. Airlines have more Problems with 7 KG limit. Camera is not attched to fit it in the bag. I´m looking to get the 300 IS 3.8 soon too. I only bought the 600 first. Would do it again every time, you won´t regret it Version 1 or 2 doesn´t matter.
