Have they killed the Olympus MFT market ? Or the aps-c market ? The G1X series can offer really good IQ for a decent size output. Personally I much prefer it to an M with standard zoom lens.

Cell phones killed the cheap small sensor market(except for super zooms). The large sensor APS-C market does quite well, even the smaller 1 inch sensor bodies sell well.

For smaller sensor compacts yes, but superzoom, travel cameras and compacts with larger sensor(1") are doing quite well. I have been using Sony RX100 Mk2 instead of cell phone as my daily shooter.

probably be no different than the G1X Mark II - which was an external EVF.

especially if they try to keep the size around the same *AND* increase the sensor size.

I use my G7X Mark II for travel and casual shots, and its 1" sensor does really well. The G1X is a larger and better similar camera, right?

I still take photos with my iPhone plenty of times, but it is no substitute for a camera with a zoom lens and a larger sensor.

I find there is a huge difference between the "1 inch" sensor and the G1x, which is virtually a 7x5 format of the aps -c. Somewhere in between the two sensor sizes is the tipping point between "small" sensors and large.
