Has anyone received a plate for their camera and can you tell me how you like it? I just need a standard bottom plate - not an L.

The RRS one looks quite big - but it does say it fits the mark II

The Kirk looks more like what I'm used to from our other cameras (5D3, 7D2). It doesn't say it fits the IDX2 but there is one review that indicates it fits

Thanks!

It's been mentioned in other threads already - the RRS plate works on both - I've got it on my 1DX2 and am happy with it. The L portion of the bracket is removable if you want, or you can just buy the bottom bracket. So far I like the L bracket - it makes a nice hand grip on the left side of the body.

The key with any of these brackets is their profile so it is comfortable in your hand when switching to portrait mode, without having to remove the bracket.

Thanks dcm. Good to know the L portion is removable. I went back to the RRS page after your response and realized if I select no to the L component it displays a picture of the base plate.

Glad to hear it works well!

I just put a spare plate that was lying around on my 1Dx (Mk1), I think it is a Sirui. It's been there since November 2013, haven't touched it since. It doesn't twist and has never needed re tightening = it works! Why look for problems? Any suitably sized cheapie plate (Arca type in my case) will work just fine.

Several years ago when I bought my first sturdy tripod (a Gitzo) I bought a standard Gitzo plate to go with it. It had a thin layer of cork glued to it and when the plate wasn't horizontal to the ground (i.e. a vertical or tilted) the cork would slowly move entirely defeating the purpose of a tripod. A photographer at the park I was visiting told me about RRS and I've stuck with some kind of form fitting plate ever since. At this point I probably wouldn't risk losing some photos to saving $ on a plate. With my luck it would work great until I got up early to hike to to a beautiful location the sunrise would be perfect and then my plate would start moving... Murphys law. :D
