About to give up on my search for the new Canon 5D Mark III. Unless anyone out there can suggest of where to get one. Thanks in advance for your help.

local shops, of course tax is big on at this price level

It's funny how people don't pay use-tax. Most states require it, even if you do purchase something online that doesn't charge tax.

Finally decided I was going to pull the trigger over the weekend on a 5DIII, only to find out it's basically sold out everywhere online. I read on this forum that my best bet was going to a local brick and mortar shop. Walked into my local camera shop and picked one up on Monday instead -- no waiting! It was great! I think I've become so used to buying things online and having to wait a few days. I've forgotten what old fashioned shopping was like haha.

They didn't have any body-only configurations but after some prodding they were willing to give me just the body at the $3500 price. Loving it so far! No flaws that were mentioned on this thread in my copy. Both my 24-105mm and 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II are tack sharp. The ISO and AF performance are amazing--probably my two favorite improvements over my 60D.

I did have to pay tax, but as a previous poster said, tax laws require you to pay taxes on online merchandise, even if the seller doesn't charge you up front. I'm a business major and I've been studying the consequences of not paying taxes, so I'm fine with "paying" taxes at a brick and mortar shop.

I should get my 5D locally (Malta) tomorrow. Like aznstuart, I forgot the feel of buying locally from a shop, especially here in my country were prices are higher and you won't find anything in stock. Usually I buy online from UK or Germany, but the new local Canon reseller was selling the camera for 3250 EUR which is much better than UK.He also told me that they will arrive in a couple of days too (tomorrow), just before my trip to UK :)

JR might have them. I ordered on Friday (4/6) and it shipped yesterday (4/10). Also try Tempe Camera, it might not be listed on their website but call and they might have a few.

You probably meant J&R since I personally do not have spare mkIII body in stock in my house - lol

:P
