5D Mark IV announcement on March 2015 or later

Re: 5D Mark IV announcement after March 2015

The CR rumor last July was for early 2015, whatever that means. Some twisted it into believing it would happen at Photokina. If it had the same photosite spacing as the 7D Mark II, it would be 51.7MP :)

Re: 5D Mark IV announcement after March 2015

DPAF is all about video, and having it but not having a touchscreen to control it is hilariously weak sauce.

I'm sure the thing will have Wifi and I'm sure it will be out by March.

If they don't do 4K video it will be the final end of Canon DSLR video as a thing (barring a C-series DSLR that's actually competitive), but that's OK with me. Canon simply never figured out how to shepherd their 5D2 keen kids to the C100/C300. The price gap was too great for them to bear, along with the need to redefine themselves as "serious videographers" given they were now shooting a proper motion picture camera. So Canon lost all that goodwill and business to Panasonic and then the truly miserable Blackmagic scam.

The people who did make the leap would all buy Sony FS7's right now if they are making the 4K transition. I would suggest that for those still thinking DSLR video.

Canon still has a very good game in stills but these specs are unspectacular if true. I mean, hard even to justify upgrading the 5D2's for the stills shooters still laboring with them and who don't use anything other than center AF. The 7D2 is a nice action cam but the 5D4 would need at least a whole stop better low-light to tempt me up from the 5D3. I think medium format is the next step for the serious non-action stills shooter, the 5D3 is a fine all-arounder as is.

If it has integrated Wi-Fi and GPS, I might consider it as an upgrade for my 6D. If it doesn't, it's a downgrade, and I'll just wait for a 6D Mark II. The number of times I've been glad that I had GPS and Wi-Fi greatly exceed the number of times I've sworn because of the 6D's AF system being insufficient for the task at hand.

These features add so little to the camera's BOM cost that I consider it utterly criminal to see Canon continuing to ship high-end bodies without them at this point—particularly in product lines with three-year upgrade cycles. Just saying.

Canon is not going to change their ways. They evolve each model, making improvements, but seldom any big changes. The DPAF is new, and still evolving, so it would be a big change, but not a revolutionary one. It can be used for most of my still images as-is, since I seldom need super fast AF, but do like accurate AF. Canon also has a list of what they consider pro features versus consumer features. If a feature is in demand, they will include it (except flash).

I really don't care a whole lot about video, but if its there, fine. I might actually find it useful with the DPAF.

Wi-Fi that worked to remotely tether and control the camera might be nice, but I think that Wi-Fi is pretty slow to make it work well. I've started using a eye-fi card for internet type shots with my 5D Mark III. It takes about 1 second to transfer a large jpeg, so its not too bad. Its nice to find my photos already there in my computer when I finish shooting.

I won't be in the game for a 5DIV, as my 5D3 still does a great allrounder job (mostly moonless nightscapes and few events), but I surely am looking forward to what extent low light IQ will be improved within the next body cycle. Hope they keep the MPs in the low 20s, couldn't care less for more pixels. As for an allrounder cam, they could even lower the MP count to 20.2 MP like the 6D...

Then no upgrade from me. I would like to see at least.
4K video
GPS
More MP
Higher ISO

So, your sources are practically implying that Canon will make yet another DIGIC circuit in a few months! Fascinating! And we have to believe this because?

you know that the digic 6 is in canon cameras since april 2013 (SX280 HS)?

and you think 2 years are to short a timeframe for a new generation? fascinating!

If the next camera comes Spring 2015 I think it will have Digic 6 even if it is supposedly on a compact camera too. If it comes next year (Fall 2015) maybe.

I don't understand why everyone is so hung up on 4k. That is not where canon's problem lies, it lies in the quality of the 1080 output right now. The codec and bitrates are lacking, that is why black magic are selling so many cameras. 4K is surely secondary to sorting out the big issues but obviously welcome

4K is fixing that problem and other problems you can have in postprocessing (stabilizing, rotoscoping etc.).

downsample 4K and you have perfect 1080 footage.

nobody needs to shoot 4K if 1080 is enough but when you can make use of 4K it´s better to have it. we agree?

I can't think of a reason to believe the 5DIV will be anything more than a full-frame version of the 7DII with the popup flash removed and a somewhat slower frame rate. But maybe Canon will surprise us with some new sensor technology or 4k or something else.
