The one thing lacking from all the 5D MK lll previews is auto focus performance for action photography.
It's an important question.
Six frames-per-second is plenty fast, but how will the 5D track action subjects ? How will it compare to the older-but-popular 1-D MK lln, the 1-D Mk lV, 7D, or others ?

If you purchase a 5D, will you need another camera for action photos ?

Since the 5D will be shipping soon, it's time to talk about auto-focus performance for sports and fast-moving subjects.

The biggest grumble with the 5DmkII was the poor AF anywhere other than the centre spot, everywhere you looked people were complaining about it, so to my mind if canon hasn't improved this dramatically (the said they have) they are going to have a LOT of angry customers. I really want them to have sorted this out, touch wood, fingers crossed and salt over the shoulder and whatever else warns of evil/attracts good luck ;)

It *should* be great. There are some advanced tracking options in the 1dx (due to the 100k pixel array) that the 5d3 doesn't get, but otherwise it seems to be the same AF system.

Time will tell when the pro reviews start to happen, but it should be good!
