Well, I was about to go ahead and pull the trigger on a 5D3 about 3 weeks ago ($2949) at B and H, but of course I procrastinated. In the last week or so it was back up to $3199 (more, but OK). Then today, it's $2999!!! I think instead of stocks, I will just invest in a whole bunch of 5D3's.....

Seriously though, anybody have any thoughts on when we can expect at least a little price drop? Right now D800's are $2796 at B and H, which seems like a pretty significant differential for 2 pretty good directly competing bodies...

I need mine by June, so hopefully a little reality sets in soon...

I know the price of D800 looks good but the price you gain in the camera is quickly lost in purchasing Nikkor glass ... if you compare equivalent Canon / Nikon lenses, the Nikon lenses cost a lot more. I buy my gear when I need it ... the only exception is if it is being sold at a huge discount.

If you're looking for a deal on the 5D3 I recommend using the Canon Price Watch or Slickdeals.net.

You can sign-up for an e-mail notification and will get an e-mail whenever it goes in stock below the price you want.

For example right now authorized dealer "The Imaging World" sells on eBay for $2849 but are out of stock; they go in-stock every couple of days. You also get 2% reward from eBay so your net price is $2795. They are an authorized dealer and their customer service is fantastic!

I snagged my first 5D3 in last September ($2749 - 2% = $2690) from Adorama last September using this price watch only a few days after I signed up for a notification (see that low spike on the graph? that's me :D). For this deal I also got e-mail from slickdeals.net about it, but after the Canon Price Watch e-mail.

Having seen the $23xx price in the refurb store (Canon USA) I am spoiled: will wait. Or just buy another 1DsMk3, which comes out at about the same $$. That is my current dilemma... Which body... but if 5DMk3 I will wait for refurb "sale" again.

I assume the various price watch services do NOT see the refurb data?

Last seen refurb offer is $27xx.
