60D on the way out?

Big sales on the 60D around here.... Body for $700, with 18-200 for $1000, and for some inexplicable reason, with 18-200 and tripod for $1900..... Bet they don't sell any of the last package....

Kind of looks like an attempt to clear out the 60D stock before the 70D is announced.

And yet, no 70D was announced in January, despite the expectations, and there's still no 70D in sight.

Also consider that the T5i and the 6D are priced exactly the same as Nikon's D5200 and D600 respectively.
That is, both Canon and Nikon have the same price gap between their respective models.

Inside this price gap, Nikon has only model - the D7100
Will Canon have two models - both the 70D and 7DII?

There is a definite market for a high-end APS-C body, but is there enough of a market for two? Is there space between the 7D2 and the T5i for a 70D when the main advantage of the 70D over the T5i is the shoulder display.... particularly with the 6D getting so close to where the 70D would be selling?

Hmm, it remains to be seen, if they squeeze it in there they'll figure out a way to position it with some features.

I had a look at prices on a Swedish web shop yesterday, I'm moving back there in a few weeks. I wanted to see the price of the 100D/SL1. The 60D is only about 70 USD more than the 100D. The 650D being 150 USD below the 100D and the 700D prices the same as the 60D. Makes sense?

I would love to know how successful the 60D was, especially compared to the XXD series. I was going to get one, hoping it would be a improved 50D, but it became a completely different camera. I ended up getting the 7D instead. With the cheaper 6D now, and maybe a 7DII coming, maybe they won't even release another XXD camera. T5i is great, 7DII as the next model up might cover it all. Curious to see what they do...

The day a new camera is introduced, its on its way out. Its just a matter of how long it will be. I'd expect to see it replaced bt the end of August.

You could find solid deals on the 60D for the past year and a half. I bought a 60D and a 18-135 for $800 maybe... and I sold both pieces for something like $1050. You just have to look constantly.

A few weeks back, I got a 60D body and a 70-300mm (after instant rebate) for 850. I sold the 60D for $600 and I presume I can get $350 for the lens. So and easy enough $100.

When I bought my 60D, I was willing to pay $800 for the body, the the 7D was easily $1300-1500 I was upgrading from an XS and there was no way I could afford upgrading to the 7D. I did not like the way the t3i felt, let alone the performance (I do some sports photography).

If I had a t3 and I was looking to upgrade, I would sell the t3 for $350. Just like before, I wouldn't want to stay in the rebel line because it isn't a sufficient reason to upgrade. So the 7D mkii will probably be $1700 for the body for the first 6+ months and the 6D on a good day is $1500. So my cost after selling the t3 would be between 1150 to 1350 which is too rich for my blood considering I was/am a hobbiest.

Having said that, I am selling my 60D and I will buy a 5d mkiii... but I've had several years to build up a little nest of cash that I can use for the gear.

Sounds like a reasonable positioning, especially the talks about the 7D2 to become a 1Dx light materialises, then there will be plenty of room for the 70D to be a very good camera.

Don't forget about the autofocus on the 7D, It sounds like autofocus is what pushed a lot of people to that camera (similar to the 5D3 right now).

I think the biggest difference between the two is the autofocus system. Very important if you are after BIF, but not so for landscape shooters.

I did forget to mention the AF system and AFMA. Probably because it really isn't necessary to have the hi performance AF with a slower shooter. It seems to me the reason for the better AF in the 7D is because of the higher frame rate. Again, something I don't need as a landscaper.

You know, it's true. I bought a 60D over 2 years ago and it's just sitting around collecting dust now that it's become "unuseful". It used to take great pictures and fulfill ALL of my needs but now, it's pretty much just a piece of crap - barely useful as a paperweight. It's weird too - my needs haven't changed, but somehow the camera has. Odd...

I think I'll just throw it away. I wouldn't want to burden someone else with such a "unuseful" piece of junk. DAMN YOU CANON!

On a serious note - you'd think photographers (who are MOSTLY a reasonably intelligent group of folks) would understand that NO camera is designed to be EVERYTHING to EVERY PERSON. But somehow this goes over the head of most...
