Most places seem to be selling new 6D at $1499 (Amazon, Adorama, BH ...). However at Adorama and BH I also see listing for "open box" items at $1269. Their description of "open box" is as follows:

Adorama: Packaging may show some wear and tear. Item includes all original accessories and full 1 year Canon USA warranty

BHPhoto: Minimal signs of wear on packaging only—item itself is in pristine condition and includes the full manufacturer's or B&H warranty.

I can't tell if camera is unused, unopened new or not. Any has experience with the open box item?

Thanks
Deepinder

PS: Refurbished 6D is out of stock on canon site.

In the UK, open box means items that have been returned for any reason and basically unused. It's illegal in the EU for a manufacturer to fix retail prices.

In many cases, open box items are either returns or items where the box has been damaged and the store is unable to sell it at full price because of this.

Since you know the stores involved, you could ask them directly.

I bought a 5D3 + 24-70 f/4 kit "open box" from Adorama in February, and it was pristine. Zero shutter actuations, not even the box looked scuffed. I agree with unfocused that it's just a way around advertised price restrictions. If you like the price, don't worry about the quality.

A open box camera for $1269 may be fine, but why not just buy a new one for $1299? You are buying from a authorized dealer, and have full warranty. Many people have bought thru the CPW street Price deal. They refer you to a dealer who is willing to sell for less than MAP.

Canon does not fix prices in the USA, dealers are free to sell them for any price they want. BUT --- Canon does set a minimum ADVERTISED price, and dealers cannot advertise a lower price, but they can sell for less if you ask.

I expect to see prices on 6D's take a drop as Christmas approaches.
