@ 70mm FoV on the new 24-70 mk.ii very different than 70-200 mk.ii

My Camera Shop called me and 30 days after I put in a Pre-order, I got my 24-70L ii

My first shot was to compare sharpness with my 70-200 mk.ii. While the 70-200 does seem sharper (it's been AFMA's but not the 24-70 so I can let that slide... however with a test shot with both at 70mm, I was not prepared with the difference in framing... it is more than noticably different... I realize that there is some variation in difference lens models but I always thought 70mm should give me a similar framing regardless of the lens I used within a small tolerance... but this to me is huge. Is this to be expeced?

The focal length specified is at infinity, each lens will vary if you are close. Put them 50 ft away and compare.

Interesting....I have a same combo. Im gonna give it a try today.

Sharpness will increase when you are closer to the subject(in this case, your 70-200), especially in low light.

Also...the lenght of 70-200 is almost 2x longer than 24-70. It could be one of the factors.

Maybe I should save money and go with the Nikon football instead. I'm sure dxo better reviewed the Nikon football. Better DR in those, I hear. ;-)

I always found the 70-200s to be more like 80mm on the wide end.

Sounds like focus breathing. Also when you are close, camera placement can have an effect.

It is interesting though because when you have one 70mm lens, its 70mm, but when you have 2, suddenly there is an issue.

True... with 2, a "Frame" of reference is born
