Crazy video... good to know it doesn't need to be coddled ;-)

I got the 7D after killing my XSi by taking it out in a driving "mist" storm on the Oregon coast (shutter blew up... cost $200 to fix). Decided it was time to upgrade to pro tools with some weather sealing.

I recently got a 70-200 f/4L IS... and after owning it for about 5 days I slung it out of my Lowepro backpack (thought it was zipped up) onto rocks. It came out working just fine. That lens is incredible by the way... definitely the best money I've spent so far on my photography hobby!

I've also killed my 17-55 f/2.8 IS in the last couple of months. It had something go loose inside and ultimately the zoom ring seized up on it. To replace it I'm getting a 16-35 f/2.8L that I'm hoping will be hardier.

Apparently I'm fairly hard on my photography gear!

Only wish the 50 1.4 was better built. 2nd copy already through 2 rebuilds - and the focus ring is sticking again. Its the most fragile lens ive ever loved. The 7D keeps on rocking (but started giving err 30s after humidity exposure in Dominican - $300 to service.)

Did the same thing, almost, shouldering my (also Lowepro) bag the zipper simply flew open and spilled : 1D IV with 70-200 2.8 attatched, 16-35 2.8, 50 1.2, 24-70 2.8 and two 580 EX II's. Nothing happened. Nice.

Well crap after almost 3 years of rough dry desert like summers and bitter cold blizzard conditioned winters, my 7D's weathersealing has all but died and needs replaced... now got to weight the difference in price to have the sealing completely replaced or sell it and buy a new one (as my second body)... I suppose a new one would have a better retail value long term and better write off in taxes come next april.

I would love to send this body into Canon Service to get a quote for repair just to see what their response would be.

Love this guy's videos, thanks for posting. ;D ;D ;D

Oh, next time I want to see the new 24-70 II lens attached.

they actually did that as well a while back after another session of camera destruction. If i remember correctly the canon people laughed, looked it over and gave him a repair cost. Then they took the nikon model to nikon HQ to see what they would do. They wouldn't even look at it with being paid up front. that's as far as they went.
So your weather sealing needs replacement? what, on the memory card door?

Well that's the hundred million dollar question. Recently it has started malfunctioning in cold and windy situations. Won't fire, won't respond, top LCD displays like its "on" but just won't do anything. Power switch won't even turn it off. The only way it works in taking out the battery.

Talked to canon and they thought it was the lens, but it's doing that with most my lenses so either all lenses are whacked or it's the camera. So gotta pay to send it in, get it tested and evaluated, get quote, time without camera, 3 years depreciated, and basically get a refurbished camera or sell it while I can get max resale, buy new camera or hold off and buy the 7d when the 70d or 7d2 comes out when the 7d prices drop and maybe get it for close to same price I sold it for. And full write off. Card door looks good to me but some sealing somewhere is screwed and locking it up.
