7D Mark II incompatible with Tamron SP AF tele-converter

Discovered to day that my new Tamron tele-converter does not work with my new 7D Mark II. It works fine on both my old 7D and on the 6D. I use it with the 70-300mm L F4-5.6 lens. Hope that a future firmware update allows me to use it. It totally locks up the new Mark II and the only way to unlock it is to pull the battery out of the camera.

A firmware upgrade of the *camera* to make it compatible with a 3rd party tc? Forget it. Same problems appeared on the 5d2 and 6d. You can try disabling afma, that helped on some camera bodies to prevent it from locking up.

Issues like this are only solved by the 3rd party, and if the item doesn't have a software update interface (like newer Yn flashes or Sigma lenses) you're hit for six. Probably they'll do a silent or official update of the tc sooner or later so you can sell on your then-old version to someone with an older camera.

I agree with the above, everyone buying a new camera model runs the risk of old hardware being incompatible. It happens every time.

I would contact Tamron to see if they have a fix or can upgrade your TC. Sigma has some new TC's that only work with certain lenses after upgrading their firmware, so you have to really be on top of things.

Kenko TC's are also incompatible with certain lenses on newer models when AFMA is turned on.

I think, Sigma 17-50 F2.8 is also incompatible. What makes it worse is, Sigma is still making and selling this lens. It is doing fine with 70D though. 7D2 is a completely different beast.
