There is another CR thread which is hammering the 180th sync speed of the new 6D. Plenty of photographers don't care one way or the other, and others place a high value on fast sync speeds. Yes, HSS is an option, but often at such reduced power output to render it of little useful value.

Which brings me to the 7DII wishlist. (Yes I know a 7DII may never happen, but let's run with this...)
The smaller APS-C sensor makes it a simpler matter to manufacture a shutter with a higher sync speed.
Remember the 500th sync on the original 1D? It was a flawed camera in many ways, but that fast sync speed rocked.

Listen up Canon DSLR R&D team! How about genuine 500th sync for the 7DII? I'll personally visit Japan and give each one of you a big hug.

What do you want to see on a 7DII?

Perhaps I am just weird or married to my 580ex or something, but the thing I really could do without on my 7D is its pop-up flash. I would prefer a 7D Mark II without pop-up flash.

Its sensor should also become more effective. The 7D Mark II receiving sensor performance similar to a 1D Mark IV should be a good thing.

And yes, dual CF card slots for me, too.

Has to be a new sensor, preferably APS-H which would allow 24MP with larger pixel size + greater density than the current 7D has with just 18MP. Same or improved AF would be nice, as would dual memory card slots, and of course dual-DIGIC5+ chips (guaranteeing at least 10 shots per second), with a noticeable improvement in DR from 11.7 to 12.5 EV (DR is directly a function of Pixel Size so the 4.3 micron pixels in the 7D1 need to be bigger, so possibly a 24MP APS-H sensor that was 30mm x 20mm would give us a 5 micron pixel size whilst retaining a 1.2x crop). A new APS-H sensor (which was originally developed in mid-1990s to match the arrival of HD TV's) would go some way to improving 'shot' noise, then new processing power of the DIGIC5+ processors would obviously contribute by reducing 'read' noise, as well as boosting ISO performance by 1-2 stops. It is not simply that bigger sensors & more MP = higher noise, the Nikon D800 disproves this theory. More pixels on a bigger sensor with better quantum efficiency + better algorithms/processing power = improved IQ

- APS-C sensor with 18/20 MP
- 6 fps
- Great AF
- dual CF card slots
- Great IQ and high ISO performance
- 5Dmark III size body/construction and weather sealed
- Price: 2500-3000€ max

8)

20MP in an APS-C sized sensor = pixel pitch of just 4 microns = Canon PowerShot!

The rest of your specs (incl. price) = Canon 5D Mark III

What sync speed will it take to keep you away from us? Just kidding.

While I've been saying for a while that a 7D2 will appear and will be technically stunning, something that will even more formalize the APS-C as a foundational block of the Canon catalog, the 6D abortion is making me wonder if Canon has simply lost their way. Given where they seem to be going, maybe a new 7D2 will also order airline tickets for me.

Anyway, to answer the question, I'd want a 7D2 to be the APS-C equivalent of the 1Dx. It should have a new sensor that can match what Sony is apparently now doing with sensors. I wouldn't mind if it dropped to 16MP if needed to do this. Truth is, that's big enough for anything anyone needs to do with this camera. (How many cropped down 20 X 30 bird prints are people really going to make?) As I've said before I want ISO 100 to give me the same performance I got with film at ASA 25, maybe 50.

What I surely don't want are non-photographic geegaws -- like this GPS and wifi they soiled the 6D with. If you want those things, get the accessories that make them happen and stop asking me to pay for your features. They also don't need to make the 7D2 any great shakes in the video department. The aspiring Spielbergs who want that should be moving to FF where the options are plenty good. I accept they have painted themselves into the corner where video is now mandatory, but it can be just the basics.

I've also said in the past the price for the right 7D2 product will be in the $3K range. I'm more convinced of that seeing Canon's recent pricing practices.

Thanks for asking -- and be careful around those Japanese engineers. The one's I've known weren't much for hugging. A good bow will be plenty!

I'd love the proposed 7D mark ii to be the crop sensor equivalent to a 1Dx.

Failing that however, less noise and slightly better image quality would do. If they ditch the pop up flash, its fine by me. In fact Im sure its another weak point for weather resistance with it... so kill it! I don't care if its still 18mp if it's better in IQ.

10fps would be another nice upgrade though for the times I use high fps. Im sure twin digic 5 processors could easily achieve that. I don't see why it can't have twin digic 5's and a single digic 4 for af. However Im sure we'd pay for that! The actual af points Im not too fussed about, if it gets an upgrade then cool, if not... then so what.

And Im still content with my 7D plus I have no money to burn, so if they take their time releasing it, then I don't mind.
