This is more of a dream than anything else.

I hike and climb a lot and I like to shoot landscapes too. I currently have a 5Dii, which gives me wonderful results. I take it and my 16-35ii everywhere I hike. I usually also bring my super-light tripod. I carry so much climbing, camping, snow gear, etc. with me that the added camera weight is annoying.

I would love to have a minimalist landscape oriented camera that is TOP notch quality and would rival Canon's best cameras. I'd pay a couple grand for it too. I'm not looking for a cheap camera.

I would want a full-frame sensor, high high MP, no special features, no high speed, no SLR, mediocre ISO performance, I'm ok with a delay from pressing shutter release, to actual photo time (like a point and shoot).

In exchange I would love it to have a 10stop bracket setting (so filtration can be 100% in post). I would also like an advanced intervolometer for time lapse, and customizable exposure times. And I want it to be small and light.

Then I want canon to come out with a super light wide zoom that kicks BUTT at 5.6 and above. Something in the range of 16-35mm, but super super light. I don't know if it's even possible to build such a lens.

I'm just sick of carrying my feature-ridden 5D up mountains just for the sensor. I want a ff high MP camera with point and shoot features (plus the intervolometer thing)

And if it had a built-in weight-less tripod that would be great too.

Oh, rainy, jobless days in LA...

I'm bored.

Are you thinking a FF Point and shoot? There were some reasonably compact 35mm film point and shoot cameras, and it should be possible to duplicate them in full frame. As soon as you get interchangable FF lenses, the size gets too large.

I'd like one as well, no need for a LCD on the rear, just a rangefinder type viewfinder.

I doubt if we will see one soon. The fact is, that smaller sensors make for lower selling prices and its doubtful that a low cost FF point and shoot could be sold for $1500. Still, I'd buy one!

Meh, I'm not really waiting for anything...except for my lunch to be done in the oven.

I have a 5D and a 7D. I use them, I enjoy them. I just want a 3rd camera that is light and HQ.

I don't think the size is as much about the interchangeable lenses as much as it is about the SLR aspect. Take Panasonic GH2 for example. I'd be happy with something that size, or maybe a little smaller.

I think there are a lot of people who would be interested in this kind of camera...but a lot isn't enough for Canon. They need "a whole ton" to make it worth the investment. I'd pay a pretty penny for it too. I wouldn't be expecting point and shoot prices.

I have no problem with rangefinder. However a flippy rotaty LCD would be slick for those close to the ground shots.

I looked into a Leica M9 a little while ago. It's too bad Leica is so overpriced. I can't justify spending $7,000 just to lighten my backpack. $2000 though I could...

Also from what I remember, the leica is a little bit bigger and heavier than i'd like.

I'll look into the Sony. My problem is that I'm super obsessive. If I own a 5Dii, then even if I have a light, hiking camera that was a little less quality, I'd still leave it at home and take the 5D for quality's sake.

How does the Sony hold up to the 5Dii. I sell 24x36 prints of my landscapes and I want something that will hold up at least close to the 5Dii. I don't need full frame for depth of field, mainly for sharpness.

5dmk3 has a chance to be mirrorless... :)

"Dear grandchildren. When your father was about to be born I bought a new Canon 5dmk2 to document this great moment. I gave you this one last Christmas, when they announced the next model, remember? Now I can give you this brand new 5dmk3, mirrorless and finally 36MP, 25600 ISO native, 10fps beautiful camera. Your grandfather will not have a lot fun with it but you still can. Remember to pass it to your grandchildren when they would announce 5dmk4. We have a valuable collection of white lens (with a new great 70-200 f4 L IS mk 17 with new coatings on AF/MF button) so call it a family tradition"...

Sorry, just bored waiting

I bought the x100 last week. Not a huge fan. autofocus irritates me and the manual focus is like an electronic manual focus... Although it is light and portable. So much so I don't know where I put it right now haha

If you can't afford an M9 at $7k body-only (and good lenses start at a grand each), then maybe I shouldn't mention the M10, currently rumoured to be at 24MP or more, no AA filter, maybe flip-screen with live-view (although I can't see leica bringing in a flip-screen, seriously).

Peter Sills is a 5DII guy with a lot of enthusiasm for NEX7.
