I´d like to know, what are the differneces in the AF systems of the 1DXII, 5DsR, 7DII and coming 5DIV.
Is there some - understandable - review about this topic?

The 1DXII and 5DsR do have the same number of AF points, my 5DsR has 5 double cross points too. Whats the difference apart from higher photosensitivity?

Thanks

The 5Ds has only one selectable AF point at f/8 (e.g. an f/5.6 lens with a 1.4x TC), on the 1D X II all 61 points are usable at f/8.

No one knows about the 5DIV yet, but we should soon.

I am sure I read the 5D4 has 24 points at F8?

But now most info says all 61 are active at F8 lol

That's what I understand as well:

expanded coverage across the frame that supports AF at maximum apertures up to f/8 with all 61 points for high-precision autofocus even when using EF super-telephoto lenses with an EF extender.

That is a significant improvement.

Canon UK web site:-

AF System/ Points
61 Point / max of 41 cross-type AF points inc 5 dual cross type at f/2.8 and 61 points / 21 cross-type AF points at f/8 ***

AF point-linked spot metering not provided.

***The number of cross-type AF points will differ depending on the lens.

I was interested in this Topic and phoned Canon Support. It took 4 Service men to get an answer: they have no information which lens will be working with all AF-Points at F8. White primes Version II will work with all AF-Points and cross type sensors. They are not sure if the 1.4x extender III will completely support all points, maybe only with an reduced number.
In some days, an actual manual will be online. Then I´ve to check.

The AF module and point availability with different optics is probably identical to the 1DXII. Like with the previous generation, what the flagship model gives you is more processor cycles available for faster and possibly more sophisticated AF (keeping up with the 2x FPS), plus more power from the bigger battery to drive the AF motors of big heavy lenses faster.
