All I Want For Christmas...

Hi there

Just yesterday I read my monthly photographers magazine and there was a review on the all new Nikon D750. The spec-list matched 100% with the camera I'm waiting for Canon to release somewhere near (Nikon released 5 full-frames in the last year!).

The idea is clear, pick a Canon 70D, put a full-frame sensor in it, add a few extra focus points in it and you're done. Canon may brand it like the Canon 6D Mark II, but anyway I wan't to have it soon!

If I hadn't spent all the effort (and money) to get familiar with the Canon eco-system I would have switched already. I started in photography in 2006 with a 400D, Canon EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 II (which is still my only and main DSLR) but in the years I've invested into EF lenses and a flash (Canon EF 50 f/1.8 II (2006 and 2009 (first one broke when dropped), Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II USM (2013), Canon EF 16-35 f/4.0L IS USM (2014), YN600EX-RT (2014)).

So, I think I followed the saying - invest in glass first - quite well, but now I would like to attach a nice body to it without buying an "old" and expensive 5D mark III nor in a non-dual pixel 6D.

Are there other "prosumers" feeling the same way?

Kind regards

+1. I am waiting for the same type of canon product. A new FF camera well-featured with a good performing AF. A merge of 70D and 6D called 6D mk II maybe... For a lower price than the 5D III which is too expensive for most of the non-pro photographers.

What I find a little disappointing is the lack of FF bodies in their product lines. Nikon has a plenty of, so much that it is sometimes a little confusing picking the good one.

So please Canon, make us a new FF :-)

Hmm, they way I see it you can either get an "old" and expensive 5D mark III nor in a non-dual pixel 6D ;D

Seriously now, is the dual pixel feature on FF the most appealing to you? 6D is not the best for video anyway.

I would think that a better (say a 19-point) AF system would be a more useful feature...

If you are ready to take advantage of your glass get a 6D and start palying with it. You can always sell it later when 6DII is introduced...

I would like to see a 36MP camera with 65+ autofocus points, amazing dynamic range and very high ISO (102,400 and up).

But I would accept a sub-US$ 2,000.00 full frame camera with a 24 Mp sensor, an improved autofocus (more focus points than the 6D, if possible f/8 center focus), better dynamic range and very high ISO.

Canon will sell this Cam to you. 10.000$ or more, in 2020.... 1Dx Mk III

Would be my favourite too, but such an "revolution" will apear in..... let us say at the earliest.... in 2022. If you look at the "evolution" steps of the Cameras. (7DIII in 2019 with 24MP and no wifi, 6D2 with 22MP and no wifi and 19 AF points, 1 crosstype in 2016 and the 6D3 with 24MP and 19 AF (all cross type) and still no wifi.... in 2020)

And other brands? Sony in 2020 with 50MP, 200 fast AF points, 15fps, DR of 15, ....

My nightmare some nights ago.....

Ho Ho Ho

Could it be that one of Santa's Elf's is a Nikon troll.

I'm sure there are even a few of them in this thread.

Guys, stop complaining and take photos. And that "old" 5D3 is a marvelous camera !!!

Yep! It's only taken Nikon 2 1/2 years to get close to it. But, to be fair, they have built in a much better light leak! :D

If you want a camera for Christmas, the obvious choice is an Elf (http://estore.canon.ca/shop/en-CA/catalog/cameras/powershot-elph-digital-cameras/powershot-elph-340-hs-silver).

Anything else would be a bumble!

So really this isn't so much about features, it's simply that we want things cheaper. A well featured FF with good AF is called a 5d3. It's really not a merge of the 70D and 6D, it's the same camera it was before they stripped the AF system out of it and put a 6D label on it.

I'm not trolling, I'm honestly hoping for an affordable FF camera which offers just a little more than the current 6D.

To be clear on my wished specs:

Must have:
Full Frame (for the cleaner high ISO, for it's depth of field, the wider angle)
AutoISO
Dual pixel
+/- 20 cross focus points
At least 2 custom functions
A good degree of weather sealing
WiFi
GPS
Price max: 2.000 EUR

Nice to have (new since 7DII):
Anti-flickr mode
RGB+IR & iTR AF
4K 30p

Kind regards

To the OP: Welcome to CR. Nothing personal, but I will not tolerate another person using the term "ecosystem" for an imaging system consisting of cameras and lenses. Your cameras, etc. are not living organisms.

To the folks who have nothing better to say than to suggest the OP is a "troll," try a little harder. He makes an excellent point regarding bodies and lenses. Frankly, from what I've seen, the Nikon D750 looks like the best general use DSLR being made today. If Nikon only had Canon's selection of high quality lenses, they'd have a thoroughly compelling imaging system. The D750 will probably be equaled (not bested) by a 5D4 whenever it shows up on Canon's slow boat to wherever.

And since I'm on a rant here, to those who think they somehow sound erudite by using the term "price point," stop it -- unless you're discussing a marketing plan or strategy. The price you're going to pay for an item is only a "price point" to the marketing organization. To you, the buyer, it's just the price.

As for what I want for Christmas.... For years I've been asking for a helicopter; Santa has failed for more than 20 years now. Maybe I'll have to eventually settle for one of the new camera-carrying, remote-controlled quad-copters. I suspect the FAA will quash that dream before it can happen.

So, anyone I haven't offended?

Sorry, in the holiday spirit and see a thread titled "All I want for Christmas...."

I look at it and think joy, we get to post our lists.

Click on it and it is the OP comparing a Nikon that is 100% what he wants to a Canon body.

Talk about a bait and switch with the title of the thread.

We could ask Santa for world peace, but how about just a year without threads degrading into a DR debate.
