Another RF 200-800 breaks in half

After a trivial (by my standards) drop from about 2.5 feet (it landed flat on the ground), my RF 200-800 broke in half. I have dropped numerous Canon products over the years, and this was the first one that broke. The lens is 14 months old. Canon is charging me $959 USD (half the cost of a new one) to fix it. I was hoping that they would give me better support, given the design flaw of this lens. For those of you that are skeptical there is a design flaw: if you saw what little was holding the two halves of that lens together, you might change your mind. I have no complaints about the (prior) performance of the lens. I will never take this lens on another trip without having my 100-500 as a backup. If you are new to this issue, see:

I have Canon Pro services, and a 20% discount on repairs, and one way paid shipping. It's only $100 if you qualify. Or maybe a friend has it?

No insurance. I'm just a Silver member with CPS. If I'd known about the poor construction, I would have bought the Carepak insurance, but this is the first time I have ever needed it.

I have a camera rider policy on my homeowners. I wonder if it would cover this?

My renter's insurance covers my camera gear, but I do have to list any individual item worth more than $500, and that increases the cost. Same for jewelry and computers. If not for this, think about something for next time.

It is IMO not surprising a lens is damaged after such a drop. Your mistake!!

Mine is 7months old, never dropped!! Canon is saying that it’s separating and broken And would only happen from impact or drop, which never happen, I am fighting it, because there is not even one scratch on the lens!! They want to charge me $1k to fix it..
