Dear Canon Rumors Forum Members:
Are there any former Nikon D3x owners that have jumped ship to the Canon 5D MKiii? If so, I would appreciate your opinion on the dynamic range and banding issues.
I have owned two Nikon D3x cameras. The first, I shot for a couple of years before dust started to build up behind the low pass filter and onto the image sensor. A third party company replaced the low pass filter, but returned the camera in unusable shape.
My second D3x (the replacement) operated fine for the next six months, but it started to build up dust, shutter oil, etc---and I sold it.
I was hoping to transition to the D800, but the quality control reports have been astonishing. The 5D MKiii seems to be arriving in great shape out of the box. But it would seem that I am going to loose a couple of stops of dynamic range off the bottom, and there is the Canon signature banding issues that never seem to be resolved from model to model (?).
My work is in landscape photography, and I do not use (nor like) HDR---so digging shadows out is part of the normal work flow.
DxO really marked down the image sensor in the 5D MKiii, but I have seen other professional tests that indicated performance much more on par with the D3x.
Again, looking for some one that has photographed extensively with a D3x that might have made the transition.
Gratefully,
Pete
