B&H Doesn't Reopen til 20th&27th????

just was on B&H's site and now it says Online ordering will not resume til April 20th and the stores and offices til Wed. the 27th! Now they are closed for 2 weeks? I thought they were reopening next Sunday or Monday the 15th ? Any input on this?

The store closes for all jewish holidays, this is one of the longer closings, if not longest. Adorama use to be similar to this but I guess they decided to higher some non religious employees to work during the holidays.

I wonder if B&H closes because the owner adheres to the holidays and cannot do business overall? I understand and respect someones beliefs but would they not be able to offer all employees observing the holiday to resume business?

The good thing is they usually have a well listed calendar to display when they will be open and closed, at least they are not just leaving the site open to receive orders that never get filled until almost may.

Adorama ships by April 16th.. It is strange that both B&H and Adorama are owed by Jewish and that Canon does not have any other international shipping stores, including its online site!

I'm surprised they're willing to have such long shutdowns and to be so denominational. In this day and age most businesses are willing to be more flexible. My company will shut down during Christmas - mainly for the cost savings - but they still have support staff available.

I watched a walk-through video recently and it did seem like a lot of Jewish folks work there (many skull hats in evidence (forget the name of those) etc), so maybe its just the expedient that most employees would take or want to take the time off anyhow.

What's also weird is that when i was looking through B&H's catalog last night, on the 3rd page they shows their holiday closings and its says Friday April 6th - Friday April 13th! So i really don't get now all of a sudden they have extended it to over 2 weeks now! The other day i thought it said different too! I know its for Passover and i am cool with that. I respect anybody especially a company to close down for their faith and religion. It's just from what i understood it was only for a week, now it is more close to 3 weeks! Catalog and web(earlier this week) said. I JUST WANT MY CAMERA ! to sum it up!

Passover/Pesach has started already from Friday night 6 April until Saturday night 14 April.

The reason that B&H are closed is for religious reasons. Meaning that Jews don't work for these 8 days as they are celebrating the festival of Passover. Additionally the owner is Jewish and has hundreds of Jewish workers not only in the store but also in administration etc. all who do not work on the intermediary days of a festival.

The first time I ran into the holiday issue with them I more less hyperventilated & had a panic attack.

It can work in your favor though if you purchase something and want an extended trial run. You just have to time it correctly.

This morning I, too, saw that B&H had changed their message, saying they'll be open for online sales again starting in on the 15th. Apparently, much confusion resulted from someone using last year's calendar.
I really must credit B&H for being both observant AND considerate of their customers, by clearly posting what their schedules will be well in advance. Apparently this particular mix-up was an unfortunate oversight.
Long ago, I learned to plan my orders in advance of their holiday closings. In an era when far too much of the corporate world suspends principles for financial gain, it's refreshing that B&H holds to its beliefs. That they're successful yet still take all these days off shows that they're doing many things right!

The Orthodox Jews are very observant of the holidays and the Sabbath. This is why they close at 2pm on Friday, so that their employees can be home before sundown and the start of the Sabbath. I really don't see how B&H could run their operation on Saturdays or Jewish Holidays. They just have too many Orthodox Jews working there.
Yeah, I've been stuck at their door a couple times when I forgot that it was a Friday or needed film on a more obscure Jewish holiday (Succos?), but hey it's their business and their religion so it's their right. Nothing to get angry about, just a "eh, whatareyagonnado?" kind of thing.
Not to get into a rant, but the internet age is creating this convenience above all mindset. Sometimes it's nice to have some time off.

I believe that everyone has a right to their religious and political views.

However, this is not a forum for flame wars on religious or political topics. It gets out of hand too quickly.

I've locked the topic to additional posts and removed some of the topics that were off the topic.
