Beach kit

Heading to Goa for a week on friday.... What do you guys recommend for the beach?

I'm taking on the trip:
5d mkiii
450D
40 STM
24 1.4
70-200 2.8
2x tc III
B+W CPL
Small travel tripod

For days on the beach i was thinking of taking the 450D and 40 STM... what do you guys think?

Suggestions/advice?

This might be sacralidge, but personally when I'm at the beach I usually leave the big gear in the room safe.

My recommendation is enjoy the beach! Get a waterproof camera, they are awesome fun and since you're on the beach in the sun low light performance isn't too important.

...this is not sacrilege but excellent advice. The 450D is going to have a hard time withstanding the sand, the 5D3 might fare better but swapping lenses is out and you don't want to be attached to that expensive piece of kit when you want to be chasing chicks into the sea. Or something. Check out the many great waterproof camera's (I'm particularly impressed by the *cough* Nikon AW1) that you can get for peanuts these days, and go splash around.

My recomendation is to get an Olympus TG-830, a dive mask, and a snorkel.... Have some fun shooting in the water and under the water....

If you do bring some "big gear" to the beach... keep it out of the sand..... sand is horrid on moving parts.... thin sandpaper.... that's what a beach is... Also, you can cook gear in a nice black camera bag in the sun.. a light coloured thermos bag helps with the heat and makes your gear look more like lunch than a nice thing to steal....

Get an aquapac SLR. And an 18-55. Even a cheapie used MkII or early IS. Use it with the 450D.

No sand, no water. Get in amongst it.

Your sacrilege is like 'say 3 hail Marys' minor infraction stuff compared to my blasphemy. I'd leave half that stuff at home, and whatever half I took would come with me to the beach unless I was staying at a really nice hotel with a trustworthy safe. But that's me.

My beach kit is 7D plus Canon 10-22 with a CPL. I might take along a 28/1.8 (also with a CPL). I also have a waterproof Panny in the bag with my snorkeling gear. Works like a charm ;D

Seriously - you need something ultra wide for a location like this.

Living at the beach I use my 24-70 the most.The 70-200 is next one on the list.

On a beach you won't face any issues regarding lack of ambient light until evening. For this a crop body like the 450D or 7D will do nicely.

Using a wide angle is a great idea (especially at empty beaches), but in case you want to shoot some water sports activities you may also want to use a long focal length. Your 70-200 with or without teleconverter will do nicely in this regard, while your 5D Mark III will do nicely for those wide angle shots and for high ISO shots in the evening.

Being me I would leave nothing in the hotel room, even if I happen to be in one of those countries, where theft is normally a non-issue. With your gear I would use this setup:

450D + 70-200mm + teleconverter
5D Mark III + 24mm

Avoid swapping lenses, keep your gear out of the sand and you should be fine.
