Hey, I had my 7d out in a little drizzle today but under a plastic bag. After about 2 hours i lost AF and none of the back or top buttons work.

The camera still works in full auto (green square) on the mode dial, but not in any other mode. The dials both work when i look through the viewfinder but the back LCD won't turn on.

Has anyone experienced this or have any idea to fix it? Thanks.

It'll probably be fine in a day or two, when it dries out. You could speed up the process by using some desiccant silica bags, if you have any. Otherwise, leave it somewhere fairly warm (eg near, but not on, a radiator, etc). Remove battery and card(s) and leave the hatches open.

Had mine with me in a heavy rain (no bag or protection) two months ago and the joystick started behaving erratically rather soon. I wiped it dry when I got home, took out the battery, removed lens and then kept it with battery door open for a day. Worked fine again after that.

I think I would be careful of how warm the camera gets. Instead I would leave it in a well ventilated area with all doors open and maybe even a fan moving air past it but only use the ambient air temperature.

Make this one week or two until writing it off or getting it serviced - once moisture got past the seals, it might take a long time to get out again. Afaik the good ol' rice bag or fancy silica gel method works best in a warm, not hot, environment - then hope for the best (i.e. that nothing has or will be corroded).

Hi grey4.
Do you by any chance have an aftermarket grip fitted? I do and occasionally get similar symptoms, no 4second shot review, no playback of images, various controls not working.
Remedy, turn off grip, turn off camera, remove batteries, remove grip? (Not sure if this is necessary, it might help resolve a funky contact pin).
Put it all back together and play happily.

Hope this helps, if not dry rice or similar desiccant and warm area as others have said.

Cheers, Graham.
