Currently I have the 24-105 f/4L IS USM mk1 among other lenses, but I am quite disapointed about its image quality, especially compared to the 35 f/1.4L II (which I also have).

I consider upgrading to 24-70 f/2.8L II. Is it worth it? How much difference is there between 24-104 f/4L IS and 24-70 f/2.8L II?

I don't care about the IS, In case I need it I have the 16-35 f/4L IS and the Tamron 85 f/1.8 VC :)

Not really a fair comparison between the 24-105 MkI and 35LII!

The 24-70 2.8L MkII easily outperforms the 24-105 - you'll hear some people describe the 24-70 2.8L MkII as giving results comparable to prime lenses, which seems to be what you're after. As tpatana stated, the f/4LIS version is a good compromise for a lower price.

The 24-70 II fared well against the 24L II, 35L and 50L, so that many that did not need the larger aperture of the primes opted for the 24-70 II over the primes. The 35L II is better than the 24-70 II. If you haven't already, check the IQ comparison on the-digital-picture.com.

Personally, I've never used the 24-105, and before the 24-70 II, I usually covered the range with a 16-35, a 50 prime and a 70-something zoom. Now the 24-70 is my second most used lens.

Yes, but wait until the 24-105 II hits. (but sell your mark I now)
