Canon 50mm 1.8 STM test shots

Just received mine today, went out on my lunch to take some test shots. Overall it's fun so far! Very light. I wouldn't call the focus fast but it is determined. Low contrast focusing can be a problem.

Do you have great photos there.
The sharpness seems very good in the center, even at F1.8.
The Bokeh seems creamier than my old Canon 50mm F1.4, and less longitudinal chromatic aberration as well.

At a MFD of 35cm I think its a good upgrade, with the metal mount and the stm focusing, but man, now I see that my 50 f1.8 II is sharper.

1.7!! Lol that's weird! I just checked the exif and it is indeed 1.8. Not sure if its a flickr issue or instand jpeg to raw

dont forget that these are just raws straight out of camera with instant jpeg to raw, no processing done yet!

Actually, you might - the aperture displayed is just an approximation, just as the shutter speed. Buried somewhere in the maker note metadata are more accurate values ... but in this case, it's probably really just a flickr bug.

Please don't mention the word "sharp" in connection with any 50/1.8 from Canon, it makes my eyes hurt

Wow, I'm pretty pretty impressed. Now I really can't wait for the next 50mm 1.4 (if it happens). Thanks for sharing.
