Canon 5D Mark III vs Canon 5D Mark II Noise article

The Mark III crops at low ISOs are more attention-grabbing than the Mark II at first glance, but this really is just down to sharpening. Take the Mark II image and apply greater sharpening..,

Please someone correct me if I am wrong but I disagree here. Once you apply a sharpen at any magnitude you increase noise. Did the author overlook this aspect? If this is true then no they are not similar and the 5D III would clearly outperform the II.

Open to anyone's comments on this.

I lost interest when he said out of camera jpg comparison i'm afraid.
pretty meaningless IMO especially when you see how much over the top NR is applied in camera
