I just recently updated my firmware for the Canon 5D3 to the latest 1.1.2.

The previous firmware on this camera was 1.0.7.

Im having a lot of random occasions where I attempt to turn the camera back on, usually after taking out the CF card to check images and returning the CF card back in and then turning it on again.

It fails to do anything and does not power back up. The only method to get it to turn back on was to remove the battery and then switch it on. It would then work. I cannot replicate the issue but I know it happens as I was playing with the camera with friends and he was unable to turn the camera on.

I think I have read a similar article about this issue but cannot find it anyone.

Anyone else know of the problem or have any advice?

Thanks!

I have had the same problem since I upgraded the firmware to 1.1.12. Canon's technical support has no clue about this problem. The person I spoke to thought the charger was not charging the batteries. I found if I remove the battery & reinstall it, the 5D3 powers back up. Hopefully Canon will figure out how to fix it quickly.

I think I found the solution. I downloaded a "fresh" version of the firmware & reinstalled it last Thursday. I used the camera multiple times since then & it worked perfectly each time. Not sure if something happened during the initial install or if a "tweak" was made to the firmware.

Beat me. Thats the normal advice to try when issues appear after a firmware update. There might have been a bit corrupted on the card as the file was read in.

I'd do a low level format on the card. (not in camera, but full format in computer)

Thanks for the tips, ill try them all and see if any of them helped.

Too bad it doesnt look positive. The CF card works perfectly in my 7D and ill update the firmware again.

Hope Canon can look into this!

Thanks all.
