Canon 7D Vs. Canon 70D

Dear fellows, due to the recent drop in the price of the Canon 70D and similar or better features offered by this compared to the Canon 7D, I was wondering if replacing my Canon 7D by 70D would be a good option for casual photography. Pricewise I can still sell my used 7D for around $900 and get the new 70D for about the same.
On top, the ergonomics of the 70D are very similar to the FF Canon 6D that is also in my plans. Any thought?

In summary, the 7D has a bigger body, more robust, with more external controls and a slight speed advantage. The 70D has an image quality advantage, in good light and especially at higher iso settings, perhaps a slight AF improvement, a definite AF improvement in Live View and video in a much smaller package.

I just did a similar decision process and went with the 6D.

One feature that is really great with the 6D and the 70D is that you can control them from a phone or tablet via wifi. I shoot a lot of HDR and architectural interior shots, and being able to set the camera on a tripod, then see a live image on the phone, and do total shooting control remotely is a godsend. No more having to worry about getting behind the camera in tight locations, carrying a right angle finder and a remote release, etc. I really don't understand why the wifi control doesn't get mentioned much in reviews and so forth.

I'd say the image improvement over the 7D I used to use is pretty significant too, especially if you print 13X19 or larger.

In most disciplines the 70D is better than the 7D.
If you do shoot in extreme situations the 70D will be the "better 7D"

Mr. AE1Pguy is right too, if he prefers the 6D. In speedy situations the 70D is better and has more AF points... But the Eos 6D-IQ ist far better than the 70Ds - especially in low light situations.

Are you sure you can get 900? I sold a 7d last month for 800 and after the Amazon commission my take away was around 720. Don't count your chickens...

IF I mainly shot stills then I would not upgrade a 7D for a 70D unless I had too. The differences (a few more mpx and debatable IQ) are not big enough for me to spend the cash. I could see you would do it if you really wanted a smaller body form camera but thats about it.

If you mainly shot video then yes I can see the advantage that the dual pixel technology and swivel screen give.
