Re: Canon Announces Three PowerShots, The G15, S110 & SX50

G15 loses articulated LCD.

VERY disappointing. I had high hopes for this camera. I am starting to fall in to the chronically-disappointed-by-Canon camp.

Canon just refuses to go all-in. The market place is far too competitive for Canon to continue this game, IMHO. Don't pull a RIM, Canon.

I was looking forward the S110 but not any more. :'(

Me, too. I have the S95, and got the S100 because it represented a significant improvement (CMOS vs. CCD, 24-120mm vs. 28-105mm equivalent, less ISO noise, better ergonomics with the 'grip' built in). The improvements with the S110 are useless to me (and I use the term improvements loosely - WiFi and touchscreen gadgetry, an additional and likely very noisy stop that's probably JPG improvement only due to Digic5). The only thing that looks even remotely interesting is the supposedly faster AF with less lag (but I bet 'faster' is relative, and what they really mean is 'slightly less snail-like'). Plus, they took away the grip, leaving the smooth, slippery surface I have on the S95.

So, I'll be keeping and happily using my S100 for some time to come (unless I replace it with the Sony RX100, that is).

Great dissapointment, the G15 is a flipping flop!

What a big disappointment! One step forwards two backwards! We expected a Digic 5 processor, nothing new there. We expected a faster lens, nothing new there. We expected a better sensor all we got was the same old 1/1.7" upgraded to CMOS just like everyone else.

Then the disaster, they got rid of the variable angled screen! You what! Something the last three models at least had and which had become part and parcel of the line. Why? To make it slimmer so that now you can put it in your pocket! Excuse me but I dont use my camera in my pocket!

So Now the G15 is just like any other compact P&S with a 1/1.7" sensor and there are loads around and for sure this isn't going to compete with the Sony RX100.

So bye bye Canon. You shot yourself in the feet with this one.
I'm heading over to the Nikon camp where they knew what we wanted when they cloned the G12 and gave it a better lens!

Fail Canon with the S110

Over 20 Years now, i use Canon Cameras, the last years i had all the S ones from 50 to 95. I was searching the hole internet for news about a new S Series Cam from Canon and today i read this. Sorry, but this is 4 steps backward. I am very disappointed what Canon is producing now. Why in the world this lens, why not a one step larger Sensor, why WIFI which no one needs in a Camera, why a Touchscreen you cant use under cold conditions and the resolution of it is poor also.

Unbelievable. For me, the S95 was the last Camera i ever bought from Canon, now i go to buy other Cameras maybe the RX or... whait, Photokina is coming, maybe we see more but i am sure we see better Compactcameras then this crappy peace of ....

Canon i think you made a very deep winter sleep the last months. Or is Canon on the way to end the life of the S Series and maybe the G Series later to sell the EOS M?

I have to admit I possibly undervalued the articulated screen when I bought my G11. Given how much I use it on a Gorillapod, in locations where I just cannot get my face behind the camera, the lack of an articulated LCD is a challenge.

I really did not think they would leave out the articulated LCD.
It should have had built-in Wireless, GPS, USB3, and the same control knobs as the G12

Good god, this could have been a great camera. Canon absolutely refuses to put all the options on ANY camera.

Re: Canon Announces Three PowerShots, The G15, S110 & SX50

I had high hopes for the G15, and I waited to see what it would be like.

But just ordered a Samsung EX2F. Amazing looking cam. I would have rather stayed with Canon, but articulated screen, built-in wifi, built like a tank, fast perf, 24mm f/1.4 lens, optical + digital IS, and so much more with the Samsung. Samsung is going all out and Canon is holding back.

I still love my 5DII and L lenses but I sincerely hope Canon gets back to the spirit of trying to blow the competition out of the water like they did with the advent of the 5D series, instead of holding back and letting the others catch, and sometimes surpass them.

It's a quite interesting camera indeed, but looking at available image samples I didn't... fall in love.

I think the RX100 has an edge in IQ, though the EX2F has some interesting functionality.

Canon unfortunately keeps up its incremental upgrade policy. They are one step behind and fail to impress, especially if you consider the price tag.

Yeah, some of the sample images are not that impressive, but I've seen that with initial images from a lot of new cameras that turn out to be quite capable. So, I took a chance and I'm quite interested to get my hands on this little guy. I am not expecting it to compete with my 5DII. At the very least it will be very portable, convenient, and highly functional. That should allow me to get shots that I would otherwise miss.
