Canon Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of PowerShot With A Limited Edition G7 X Mark III

I am perfectly willing to pay $880 USD (B&H as of this morning) for a ‘regular’ G7X Mk III to replace mine when it eventually malfunctions. This is 35% more than my original purchase in 2021. The Anniversary Limited Edition contributes zero to the functionality of the camera and end results, unless an ego boost helps out in the process.

My experience with all the PowerShots I have owned is that something ‘mechanical’ happens after 30-40k shutter actuations. The shutter or IS gets ‘sticky,’ or the complex non-linear guides on the collapsing zoom/focus lens barrels get worn down and loose.

My count is ~30,750. How do I know? I have my file numbering set to ‘continuous’ and I don’t create new folders on the SD memory card. The file number rolls over from IMG_9999 to IMG_0001 and its done this three times already.

I wonder how long it will be before Canon releases a photocentric PowerShot with their new 1.4" sensor. It's a safe bet that Canon didn't create a new sensor and a new sensor size for just one camera model.
Is it like clicking your heels together three times? Or saying Beetlejuice? If you repeat it often enough, it must happen! (y)

I wonder if you could get $2000 for one on Amazon or ebay. I know the "regular" one was fetching $1500.
Oh, hell yeah. The eBay scalpers gonna have a field day with these cameras fetching $2000+.

Geez, what a low-effort marketing stunt. It really disappoints me. If it were $100 more, I would've honestly thought about this, but a 45% price increase? For a color, a logo, and a package redesign? Please.

I just hope that we'll still get the AE-1 remake at some point.

What I'm not fully understanding is how they're getting away charging the MSRP from 7 years ago... I'm not even talking about the very expensive limited edition.

I get that some people might want such a camera or even see a need for it, and since they're out of options, they will go for it.

But this is a clear case for me where I will just have to vote with my wallet. If they want my money, they need to update the camera.

Also if we're being honest the change from Mark II to Mark III wasn't big either.

I wonder that to cant wait for new compact camera's with i hope great zoom of around 300/400.

And with raw they need to make a 740hs with a bigger sensor and with raw, i would definitely buy it
