Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM

13mm, f11, 8 seconds, iso 100. Shot this morning at dawn. Used two 600-EX-RT's zoomed to 200mm fired at full power onto the flag and pole three times each during the exposure.
Nice one Scott! I would have thought the two most visible street lights would have made much more of a negative impact. Did you do something special or was f11 enough to keep it controlled?

Hi there Eldar.

The two lights in the image created no real issues, indeed I find the flare resistance to lights in the image remarkably good, I did spot out a couple of very small flares from the light on the frame left. What did cause a major problem was another light to the right just out of frame, these directional lights I am having real problems with, you really do need some kind of shading system in place to use the lens well. For the better heeled amongst us I suggest a Wimberly Plamp, for me I use whatever is around :-) , in this instance I used my camera bag hanging on a light stand!

Here is the first shot I took to test exposure when I arrived, as you can see there are major flares streaking across the image from the light out of frame to the right (highlighted green), and a couple of small ones coming from the light in the frame on the left (highlighted pink). The two pink ones are similar to the ones I removed from the final frame.

P.S. I am very impressed with how sharp this lens is, I had the 16-35 f4IS and really was very happy with it, but somebody made me an offer I couldn't refuse for it and I feared I would miss it, but so far the 11-24, in actual working situations, is every bit as sharp and contrasty, if much more prone to flare from out of image light sources. I really wish I had an excuse to get a 5DS/R to really see where the limits of this lens are.

An unusual application of the 11-24, a frog on my garage door. 11mm, 1/4 second, f6.3, 100iso, remote 600EX-RT in my left hand in manual power. Just playing with perspective and seeing what comes out, not a quality shot by any means, the front of the lens was about 8" from the frog and I didn't mess up his evenings hunting.

The more I play with the 11-24 the more interesting the perspectives I see, it gives a unique point of view for product in environment type shots too, think a bottle of whiskey in a nice farmers croft or something with the log fire burning a lovely orange glow etc, though the 12mm Extension Tube really doesn't work well with it.

We had an airshow this past weekend and one of the planes the was on display, both static and in flight, was this B-25. Taken @11mm from well under the forward turret while laying on my back.

I wonder if this lens ever will fall natural for me. Whenever I think I have a good case, it looks totally different from what I had envisioned. Practice ... practice ... practice ... puuhhh ...

Saturday morning we woke up to a spectacular weather and I managed to get this one. The ones I like are those where the distorted perspective does not give you away (which happens in about 90% of the cases ...)

Shot @11mm on a 5DSR, 1/400s. f7.1, ISO100

I do not use mine very often at 11mm. However to have the part of 11-16mm available in a zoom is very nice, but I found out that most time I use it between 13-21mm

I think this is great, and a great example of using an UWA. OK, I agree, maybe not a wall-hanger, but IMO one of the more interesting ones. But then again I don't get to see many frogs, let alone on my garage door.

So I got a couple of days 'off' this weekend and decided to play with the 11-24 in ways I don't normally get to shoot.

First three are at 11mm and the fourth is at 20mm. All shot with a 1Ds MkIII and 100iso, various apertures and shutter speeds. I have about 10 others I really like from the couple of days too, it is fair to say I am loving this lens!

P.S. Thanks ejeneer, I know I will use it for product shots and a few other 'specials', the more I play with it the happier I am.

Really like the composition and lighting in the second shot.

In the third, that highlight shoulder looks really impressive; I'd trade a three stop shadow push for this anyday.
