Canon EF 16-35mm f/4.0 IS L vs f/2.8 Mkiii?

My point of view is probably slightly different since my background is motion and not stills. Everything being equal, my philosophy is always get the fastest glass you can afford. I don't get or agree with the new viewpoint everyone is taking with slower lenses (and slower lenses with IS) just because cameras can now shoot at crazy-high ISO's and still produce clean results. An f/4 lens shot with a camera than can jack the ISO and still be clean and achieve the proper exposure is not the same as an f/2.8 or f/1.4 or f/1.2 lens. Aperture is for more than just exposure.

I would go with the 16-35 f/4L IS or the 24mm f/1.4L depending on your priority. Or get both :)

In your case, it sounds like the 16-35 f/4L IS will do great.

Thanks Ruined :)

Once I have my Lee filters, 16-35 variant and a full frame camera, I'll be a MP-E65 and 70-200 f/2.8 IS mkii away from my dream kit.

Then my kit money becomes travel money and time to start adding to my portfolio :)
