Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM

i did some more testing with the 2xiii and tc-2001. i now think the iq is quite good. especially considering it's a 2xtc on a crop body. the canon looks to have a bit more contrast. the exposure is slightly different, i was using auto iso and its 100 on the canon and 125 on the sigma

standard dxo conversion. there is a module for 7dii + 400doii + 1.4xiii or 2xiii combo which is nice. dxo recognizes and processes the tc-2001 as if it is the 2xiii

I've started writing my thoughts about using the 400mm DO II for BIF shooting. No real firm conclusions yet. That will have to wait for a lot more shooting experience. It is pretty amazing on a 7DII with 1.4 x III in terms of the shear magnification that can be had hand held. Also included some food for thought on just how hard it is for a camera to AF accurately with BIF shots.

very good article on the lens ron. i haven't had the chance to use the lens on bif much myself yet. that's the main reason i got it but i can say the iq seems excellent on red squirrels eating white pine cones.

7dii + 1.4xiii f/5.6 125s, iso500

Not much action on this thread. Here are a few from a couple months ago. shot out of a canoe with the 1.4xiii its really good for that, handles very well in close quarters.

The Blue Wren can be found about 200 km South from Perth in the Margaret River region. They do not live in Perth city area. Occasionally you will see one in the hills east of Perth, but that is very rare.
The pic is from a male bird and they only have this intense blue colour during mating season, which is about now (spring in southern hemisphere).

Please see attached Blue wren in "summer" colours.
Yallingup is just at the edge where you can find them. You need to look in an area where there are a lot of high trees with little undergrowth. Further south on Caves Road the trees change to karri and marri and they prefer that.
Anyway, I hope you have the opportunity to visit the region again, September/October is by far the best as it is wildflower season as well.

A 2xIII extender example. A young red-backed shrike at 5-10m with a 7Dmk II. 1/400 sec, ap 9. Hand-hold with some support from a fence-pole.

Very nice first post. Welcome to CR.

Keep posting your examples so that I may be persuaded to do something about the GAS! I'm happy with 300 X2 but ......... you know. Only 1/400th, that's impressive.

An example of BIF with a 2xIII extender. A common tern at 1/2500 sec, ap. 8, iso 1600. Distance 30-60 meters. Handheld 7Dmk II. This is with stabilization mode 1 so possibly the sharpness can be improved. Nevertheless, I can still enjoy this picture.
