Doesn't a 9 bladed aperture typically give a nicer blur/bokeh than an 8 bladed (like the new 2.8 III will have)?

Curved blades help bokeh / More blades help bokeh / Max aperture dramatically helps bokeh / apodization helps bokeh (doesn't apply here) --> my guess is that the f/2.8L IS III will still clearly outclass the f/4L IS II on this front.

However, an odd # of blades = a 2x number of points on the sunstars. Stopping this thing down with the sun or streetlights in frame should be fancy.

Curious to know what max mag ratio is on this lens? If it's anywhere close to 100-400mm L then this lens will certainly make a good replacement for some macro work(shy lizards and butterflies) that lens at a lower price.

The more I read and learn about this lens, the more I want it!

I've never owned a 70-200mm lens and currently use the consumer grade EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM Lens, which seems alright and I've got some pretty good images with it.

I like the extra reach with the 300mm end but I'm thinking the added sharpness with this new 70-200mm, all I really would need to do is just crop more often if needed.

I honestly don't see buying the approx. 12yr old version of this lens when the new one is only 200.00 more.

I'm wondering if it's really worth upgrading to this new lens??????
