Just wondering if there would be anyone on the board interested in a Canon EF 800mm f/4L IS USM lens?

Granted, it would probably cost close to $18k, but since such lenses are often mounted on tripods would the weight actually be a factor?

I think this would be an awesome lens.

That would be a spectacular lens, however, IMO you'd be looking at closer to $30k. Compare with the $26,000 "sigzilla" 200-500 f/2.8 which would actually have a slightly smaller entrance pupil than a hypothetical 800 f/4 (177 vs 200mm). I acknowledge that the Sigma is a zoom, but I still can't imagine a comparable Canon lens retailing for less.

Would be fun for astrophotography, though!

I could see an 800mm f/4 DO IS being a possibility.

With advances in sensor technology, and ISO 6400 producing good quality images ... No, I do not see any possibility of 800mm F4 find its place in the market.

That does not stop it is made in order for NASA, Navy, and other customers for whom the price and weight are not a problem.

It would need to be 4.5kg or lighter and $17k or cheaper. Was looking for lens thread for the 800mm so I just end up replying to this
