"From B&H
We have just been informed that B&H Photo has the new flagship Canon EOS-1D X available for preorder with the official price of $6799.

Shipping is expected to begin the last week of April, 2012.

Canon EOS-1D X Available for Preorder
Preorder at B&H now for $6799"

I notice that Canon's site no longer has the FCC disclaimer at the bottom of the 1D X page. Looks like it's been approved, so we should be seeing it soon.

I, for one, did not expect the 5D3 and the 1D X to hit the shelves at effectively the same time. Now I have to decide which to purchase first, if they had staggered it... the choice would have been made for me. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Is there any way we can find out where in line we are?

Probably not. It likely doesn't matter much since the quantities they will get in are unknown - you could find out you're 70th, but will they get batches of 50, or batches of 100?

Well, I am in the queue as well! Finally! At first I was going to wait to see some of the early test report before pulling the trigger then last night in bed I said to myself: who am I kidding here, I just want this puppy even if in all honesty, I dont really need it being an enthousiast and not a pro-shooter.

Now all I hope is they will be able to fulfill most of the pre-order fairly quickly because my credit card was fully charged with the full amount - ouch!

Ouch, indeed. Unfortunately, that's B&H policy for international orders. For domestic, they just run the authorization for the amount, but don't actually charge the account until they ship.

Do we know if they fixed the f8 thing?

No idea. Someone in another thread mentioned being told by a fairly senior Canon rep, who apparently had just returned from 1D X training in Japan, that the 1D X will be able to AF at f/8. I'm not getting my hopes up - reps are often misinformed. Leave a little room for hope, though... :D

Yeah. I guess we all have to pay for it eventually right! I will just do it a bit sooner. Still this way for me compared to going to local shops. The only downfall would be in the very unlikely event of a return, it would make it akward since they would re-emburse on the same payment method wihich is the credit card, but by then that card will have been paid - but again, I dont plan on returning this beast unless it is defective...

Anyone know how long it usually takes Amazon to make a camera available for pre-order once B&H and Adorama have done so? The 1D X is still not available for pre-order on Amazon, and inquiries have yielded no success finding anyone who knows when it will become available.

When the 1D X was first announced, Amazon had a page for it, but it disappeared. It's worth noting that Amazon themselves don't sell any other 1-series bodies (although 3rd party vendors list them there). So, Amazon may not even be selling the 1D X...

Thanks for the feedback! Wish I'd known that last night. I could have gotten into the B&H pre-order queue 24 hours earlier. Kept thinking Amazon would make it available to pre-order in a day or two, but my past experience and a quick check of the website supported what you said. Do you know why they sell cameras like the 7D direct, but not the 1D line? (Thanks again.)

I'd guess that there's not such a high demand for such an expensive body that Amazon feels it worth stocking them...

So, interestingly enough, Amazon made it available for pre-order earlier today, and the site says it will be sold by and shipped from Amazon.com. So, I'm going to try ordering from them and dropping my B&H pre-order. I figure I'm higher up the Amazon list cause I got to it "same day." April 20 for B&H?

There's so little info about the release date... The most I've heard is someone mentioning on dpreview that B&H told them they'll get the 1D X shipment on April 20, so that hers will ship within a few days of that.

Hopefully the wait will come to an end soon, and there won't be any more delays. Canon's been struggling with product releases, and I read on a Japanese forum that even the Utsunomiya plant is having issues due to logistical ripples from the earthquake/tsunami.

Also had the full amount taken of my cc which is fine, but the exchange rate hammered me :D Banks try and profit from anything they can... Authorisation went through on the 14th but the bank only took the money off 2 days later when the exchange rate was 30c higher. At least I am sure this beast will be worth every penny! ;D
