Canon EOS R1 v1.0.2 and Canon EOS R5 Mark II v1.0.3 Released

Strange. I did not have any problems upgrading to 1.0.3. Have you tried upgrading with the Camera Connect app on your phone?
Other suggestion: try updating with a lens mounted on the camera.
Last and final attempt this morning. It crashes when I put in the formatted card with .fir and click to update. Over the EOS Utility, it crashes immediately after the app writes the .fir to the card via the cable. The message appears on the screen as I indicated to @neuroanatomist.

Went to the local WEX where kudos to Nicolas Hepburn who solved the problem. It transpires that the screen shown in my photo has its touch deactivated so when O touched Cancel nothing happened. But, it is still responsive to the wheels and so the OK can be activated and then from the body.

I’ve never tried the touch screen for that step. But the firmware updater would have to be a root-level process so it makes sense that only basic functionality is available.

Glad you got it sorted!

All the operations until the image I posted above are done on the touchscreen. The illustration on the Canon instruction pdf doesn't show the OK grayed out and doesn't say switch over from the touchscreen to the wheels and buttons. In fact it shows a rather different image from what is on the R5ii and presumably comes from some earlier camera.
