Very true, but Canon had global sensor in C700 cinema camera so it could make sense that R3 could be global. Frankly, no one knows Canon's 4-5 year plans except Canon.

And even Canon's 4-5 year plans need a high amount of flexibility (new patents, changing market demand, competition, availability of components etc...).

Absolutely agree and I would want the flexibility for all of the reasons that you mentioned especially new patents, new technology, and changing market demands.

That frames it as Canon reacting to Sony releases and shortening the whole development pipeline of a camera to 12 months or shorter.

What makes you think the R3 II is coming so soon?
Canon certainly has not rushed out the R1.
