Some of Canon's online spec literature stated it would have oversampled 4k60, while other Canon sites did not. It obviously ended up being a false alarm. (and Canon deleted the false specs.)

The contradiction was known and widely reported immediately, by virtue of it being in a few countries and contradicted by everything else. A major blunder by Canon. The person I was responding to said "I bought the camera because I saw a lot of buzz about it, that it can record 4K HQ 60p (oversampling)", which suggests it was rumors as opposed to the strange Canon website blunder. That said, I won't waste my time with further speculative pedantry with someone responding to a comment about someone else.

The buzz came from Canon misleading people.
It's not the fault of the observer who responded to the buzz resulting from inaccurate Canon press releases about 4k HQ 60.

Why complain about the past when there is this missing update to complain about

When Canon releases a firmware update and then pulls it, that's not a good sign. I will wait a while before upgrading.

It was not pulled. It was published due to a person prematurely pressing on publish in their cms. As we'll see lots of firmware updates for other cameras it's save to assume it was just human error.

For me, one button toggle on and off of precapture is the main desire, however, faster shutterspeeds in Av (< in Av the shutterspeeds for some odd reason max out at 1/8000th, which is not enough to preserve highlights in a white dress or shirt with f/1.2, in bright sunlight) and a proper pincode security that need to be punched every 24 hour, would both be at least equally important....

Yea, faster shutterspeeds can be found in M mode, but with AutoISO enabled, it is for one thing nearly impossible to keep the ISO below 200, and for another, it is VERY easy to accidentally end up at ISO 4000 in bright sunshine and f/1.2, if there suddently is an image to be captured in the shade, been there, done thát, latest this weekend....;- /

Buying a camera on rumors of oversampled 4K seems kinda wild lol. I have an old R8 that can do that. Imo it's overrated, virtually no one will ever notice a difference, if they even happen to watch any video on a 4k monitor.

I am sure everybody remembers about this topic. There were not rumors, but press releases which were (deliberately by Canon, I say) inaccurate. Having said this, I think we should all learn and focus from now on.
