Canon EOS R5 Mark II user feedback and discussion

Have your tried this;?

1. Make sure you have a fully charged battery.
2. Detach lens and put the camera body cap on.
3. Go into your menus and find Sensor cleaning.
4. Select Clean manually.
5. Let it run for 60 seconds, turn off the camera.
6. Turn it back on and try it.

I have not tried this, and I will tonight! Thanks for the suggestion! Again, I've never seen anything like that on my 5Div so I have no experience trying to sort it out. Appreciate the recommendation!

I didn’t try it, to tell you truth didn’t even know there is an official canon tool for raw video. But still it is strange that the problem happens with a vintage lens and not with the RF lens.

Now I've updated to Resolve 19, and it is slightly better. Ive posted video here on my threads account https://www.threads.net/@tomislavmoze/post/C_BIuMas9NP/ you can see some frames, weird circles and those pink patterns.
Good thing the weird halo the I had before in 8k RAW video is now corrected in the resolve 19.
I guess Canon did change raw codec in video and for best rendering we will have to wait for the updates from our editing software.

That is a great question. If enough users of the R5 Mk2 and R1 asked Canon to provide additional custom modes beyond C1 to C3 it would be a good start. @Canon Rumors Guy do you know how we can reach out to Canon and provide feedback?

Now that I've reached a certain age, my second system is Pentax.
At Pentax it has long been possible to rename the C1-C3 and, depending on the camera, up to 9 C modes are available.
Furthermore, Pentax has never really changed its bayonet and you can still use ancient lenses.

As a former Pentaxian myself I can attest that that's about the only benefits there is about using Pentax DSLRs these days*, though


*that's of course just my opinion, ymmv ;-)

One thing I hope will come in a future firmware update -- setting a limit for the pre-capture buffer size.

Shooting dance and theater, I often don't actually need 15 frames but just 5 or 10 at most (I sometimes trip the shutter just past peak action and rewinding just a few frames will let me get what I want).

Battery life continues to be excellent, as with earlier 5 series cameras. This was 3 hours of photographing a ballet show rehearsal with liberal use of pre-capture.

You can program three different settings in the C1-C3 menu and one of these settings could be with Pre-Capture enabled and another could be with Pre-Capture turned off.

Does it also work with Focus Bracketing on Mark II? On Mark I, registering a C-mode is disabled in the menu when Focus Bracketing is turned on.

If only I could get my hands on some more LP-E6P as I only have the one that was inside the box. The guys at Calumet didn't get why I am aggravated because of this mess, as I could "still use the old batteries". Yes, of course, but they fail to see that I can't use one of the main killer features of the Mark II with them - Pre-Capture. Idiots. Both at Canon and at Calumet.

And by the way: I used to use Patona Platinum Batteries in my R5 and R6 - excellent third-party options for a good price in my opinion. They would power my R5 Mark II - but only for a split second, then the camera would show Error 88 for some bizarre reason. This kind of behavior should be illegal, blocking commodity batteries out my system. I honestly think that this is an outrage.

Does only Canon do this by the way? I've never had an issue with my 5D Mark II back in the day, even my company's 5D Mark IV was fine with third-party batteries. And the Patona ones used to work splendidly as I mentioned before.

I am new to the 5 series Canon cameras. I see the mode visible on the top lcd when the battery is in the camera but power switch is in the off position. It goes away when the battery is removed. Is this normal in the R5 Mark II or the R5?

On the new batteries. I noticed yesterday that Adorama had a back order with expected availability of 10/2024. I checked before writing this post and it is still the same. Grim news.

I saw this possibility looming and found the DR-E6P available a week or so ago at a retailer on the Canon USA "Where to buy" link for the coupler. I ordered it and got it quick. In the PDF manual on page 13 is a link to Supplemental data and found "Using commercial power packs" or similar. I found an Anker power bank was verified for several cameras in the canon line. I got the one verified to power and charge the R3 and R7 and bought it locally. Another Anker power bank is verified for the R5 Mk II in the current Advanced Manual posted on Canon USA site. It works fine and since I mostly shoot in the field I will use it as a portable power supply. The one I bought isa 25600 ma with 87 watt output and storage. It works fine in a short run using it.

Read the supplemental data for the R5MkII before purchasing because you may have a power bank that will work already.

A response to my question about the LCD display will be appreciated.

this is normal yes. Helps you to remind what setting you left the camera when turning it off

Thanks. I seldom take the battery out when preping for the next days shoot and was concerned about battery drain though it is decidedly small.

With the R5 the drain is +/- 2-3% in a week.

Canon does not actively block third party batteries in the R5 Mk II. Your third party batteries do not supply enough power.

When I got my R5 Mk II, it only came with the battery that was in the box. The shop had no idea when the additional battery I ordered would be delivered. It came the next day (along with the grip).

Thanks for the suggestion - unfortunately it didn't work and the spot persists. On further inspection, it becomes more visible as the ISO creeps up. I'm going to keep doing some homework on this as it's pretty distracting while shooting.

My bigger issue with the old batteries is a partly depleted old battery doesn't seem to power my R5ii. My 5D iv shows a battery in good health as 34%, but the R5ii says it's dead and to use a different battery.

Thanks. In prep I charge the batteries that need it and format cards i expect to need plus one or two more. Turn off the camera so I can grab and go when I go out the next day. Overnight drainage should be negligible.
