Canon Has Multiple New Product Announcements Coming in November

The R5 C had a first quarter release in 2022.

The R8, R7, R10, R50V, and R100 all had 2nd quarter releases over the past three years.

The R1, R3, R5, R5 Mark II, and R6 all had third quarter releases over the past five years.

The R6 Mark II is the only one in the past five years with a 4th quarter release.
perhaps I am thinking about lens announcements as you say the bodies are throughout the year. Didn't Canon give a number of lenses per year that they planned to release?

Yes, they said '8 per year' a few years ago, I don't think I've seen Canon mentioning a specific number since then. Also, 'lens' includes things like teleconverters and they don't seem to count the announcement date, but the shipping date.

Prior to around 2020 and the supply chain train wreck caused by the pandemic, Canon tended to announce new ILCs and lenses in the first quarter, but often did not ship them for another 3-6 months. Towards the end of the 2010s they started waiting to announce things until only a few weeks or less before deliveries began. Instead of official announcements with all specs listed a few months in advance, at times they might issue teasers about an upcoming product. They also appeared to authorize unofficial "leaks" about products a few weeks before official announcements. Since supply chain issues began in 2020, they've seemed to hold any news of upcoming releases very close to the vest.

In the current environment, even when the initial batch of cameras or lenses have been manufactured and are ready to ship from Japan there's still uncertainty about how long it will take to deliver those goods to various world areas, particularly the U.S. which has had several port workers strikes over the past five years and the total unpredictability of what tariffs might be charged since early 2025. I could even foresee containers already in the U.S. being held by Canon in the international area of ports waiting for a change in tariff rates before submitting them to U.S. Customs for importation into the U.S. market.

Meanwhile over at Canon's biggest competitor, Sony, the A7V rumor's are coming in as follows:

Sony A7V "confirmed" info:
  • Announcement in October/November
  • 4 way articulating screen
  • No Sony A1II grip design
  • AI chip
  • dual SD-Type A slot
Sony A7V "unconfirmed" info:
  • 33MP sensor (unclear if “tweaked” or totally “new”)
  • price close to $3000
It would hilarious if Sony puts in the same old slow 33MP sensor as the last model. Also hilarious that nothing is mentioned about 4k60p with a crop since their R6II competitor (A7IV) has a 1.5x crop. And if they actually price it at $3k USD, Canon can easily undercut their price, maybe even consider the same $2,500 USD at launch as the previous R6 models. Since Canon just launched the FX3 killer (EOS C50) and combine it with the R6III (as rumored here) and they price it well... Canon will mop up over Sony, steal back a lot of videographers who drank the Sony CoolAid that they were giving out for "free" on YouTube.
