Canon Lens prices in the US

I've noticed in the last couple of months that Canon's prices for their lenses have risen here in the US. For example, a friend of mine bought the 50mm f1.2 about 6 weeks ago for $1400 on Amazon. That lens now sells for $1600 on Amazon. I bought the 24-70mm f2.8 L about 3 months ago for $1250 from B&H, and that same lens is not $1400.

Did Canon raise their lens prices, or is that just a byproduct of a weak dollar?

Plus the holiday sales in general are gone. It's a historical trend really. Lenses go lower in price before the holidays, and right before summer. In between those times, they rise back up towards retail so the "sales" seem better each time. You'll see this happen with the new rebates probably...lenses will be cheaper come June.

April 26th, 2012: We've received a leak of a rebate starting on Sunday April 29th. It runs until June 2nd. This is a double rebate, where your rebate is doubled with the purchase of either a 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, a 7D, or a 60D.

Prices tend to go up in the spring. Thats when demand is high, and people are buying new equipment for upcoming vacations. They are usually lowest at Christmas time.
