Finally

Canon has finally updated their waterproof PowerShot camera. The PowerShot D10 was an odd camera to say the least. The new PowerShot D20 looks to be a bit more reserved in design.

The D10 was great!! It was a true waterproof diving P&S, whereas most advertise 3.3 meters as the max depth before the pressure fills the camera with water. It wasn't a $1000 rig for deep diving, but for fun shallow dives, it was one of very few cameras that went below 10ft.

This new D20 isn't the most attractive specimen, but it should do the trick!

Any specs on this guy -- resolution? Video resolution? FPS? Aperture?

The D10 specs were:

12.1MP
2.5LCD
Digic 4
3x Zoom
ISO 3200
Image Stabilizer
33ft depth 4 feet shock
Awesome clip to attach to your SCUBA gear

What was odd about the D10? It seems like a standard P&S in a water-sealed case?

What's with that nipple on the upper left?

And that bulge on the left side?

The nipple was a removable screw-in part that you could securely tie to your SCUBA gear, and that bulge let the lens move back and forth without having to have a change in physical space with the pressure (usually expanding and contracting air.)

And yes, it was a little odd looking :)

Hmm, this seems to be the first Canon P&S to use folded optics, after saying for years that they won't utilize that since it degrades IQ compared to a "straight" design. BTW, I liked the build & design of the D10. At least they didn't sacrifice function and build quality on the altar of form like the other brands.
