Small typo: title and screenshot show 45 mm STM, subtitle reads 40 mm. Maybe just correct that ;)

Maybe a new series of mid-end fast prime lens are coming, like 45 F1.2, 75F1.2. By doing so, Canon can capture the audience for third-party lenses and lessen the negative impact of keeping the RF mount closed.

PZ lens seems to be mainly a C50 kit lens. The 45mm sounds strange, non L lens with a very fast aperture, weve never seen anything like this from canon before. Absolutely an out of the box lens, a new segment if that is true. Especially if more similar models were to come out in the future, as others have mentioned 75mm f1.2 or 35mm,85mm f1.2. Worrying message, if this happens, I am afraid we probably wont see third party full frame lenses with RF mount for a while...

I'm not sure I believe a 45mm f/1.2 non-L will come online. Yes, it's on the form. Yes, I'd be happy to see that. I just don't think it'll happen. I hope it does, but I'm doubting.

A non-L full-frame RF 45mm f/1.4 or f/1.2 STM would probably be an instant buy for me, as long as it had internal focusing, lead-screw STM, and maybe some degree of weather sealing, like the RF 16-28 and 28-70 STM have.

It could be a great option to sit between the RF 50mm f/1.8 and 1.4 lenses.

The RF 20-50mm PZ sounds really intriguing, if there is a camera that can zoom the lens accordingly. A R8 V comes to mind and could imagine I´d one of those.

A 45mm F1.2 STM is really interesting:
- first F1.2 since 2019
- first non L F1.2
- STM in a very fast prime
- 45mm focal length

I read an article on fstoppers about a 43mm FF lens. Apparently, it perfectly mimics how the human eye perceives distances. It really caught my attention and interest and I´d gladly give the lens a try.

What if the first date is for APS-C announcements and the second one is for FF?
For example R7 MkII with RF-S 45mm F1.2 STM ín the first etappe, and R6 MkIII with RF 20-50 F4 Z (plus hopefully two more RF lenses) some days later?
Canon might introduce a non-L F4 Z duo beside the standard F4 L trinity, the 20-50mm being the first member of this budget- friendly hybrid lens line (50-150mm comes next year).

I as well. I've been pleasantly surprised by the smoothness of the PZ function. I'm using mine with the tripod grip and integrated BR-E1. While the LCD can be a little difficult to see in bright sunlight, it's a great kit overall.

If the 50-150 is a f4.0 lens I would riot. Having a 50-150 f4.0 when Sony and Tamron manage to do praised 50-150 f2.0 and 35-150 f2.0-2.8 would be major disappointment.

I think the RF 45mm f/1.2 is a full-frame lens:

1. There’s no “RF-S” in the name.
2. The target audience for the R7 II is mainly wildlife shooters. Canon isn’t interested in developing RF-S portrait primes, which is why they’ve let Sigma cover that niche.
3. The RF 28–70mm f/2.8 was Canon’s obvious response to Tamron. Now they need to answer the wave of inexpensive Chinese full-frame portrait lenses and Nikon’s affordable f/1.4 lineup. A full-frame 45mm f/1.2 STM makes perfect sense: it uses an STM motor, a non-standard focal length, optics that are likely less refined, and possibly no weather sealing—helping it avoid cannibalizing the RF 50mm f/1.4L or RF 50mm f/1.2L.

Canon released a full set of CN-R full frame Cinema prime lenses in early 2024, priced around $4200 ish each. It seems to me that you’d be right about a 42mm F/1.2 being more likely a cinema prime lenses, than a non-L RF lens. Just my guess.

Canon would likely measure the F/stop in cinema T stops, placing it in the lineup between 35 and 50 as a 42mm T/1.3 lens, matching the other T/1.3 primes. (or 40mm T/1.3?)

40mm is common for cine prime lens makers: Zeiss Supreme Prime 40mm T/1.5, Cooke S7 40mm T/2.0, Schneider, etc… Canon would be competing in this space.
