I wonder where these long wait lists actually take place. If you guys in the US don't really feel the effect and I got my hand on the 200-800 and R5II in Germany pretty much shortly after launch without preordering (circumstancial evidence I know), I get the feeling canon just send out these notes of short supply as a precaution just in case, without there actually being a shortage.
One could also say it's to boost preorders, but I'm not sure if canon really would Benefit from preordering that much.

I can confirm. Within one week, I could easily have bought - not just ordered - 3 R5 II cameras. And at least one more via grey market. All this one week after it became officially available.
It seems easier to get newly introduced Canon products from European* dealers.
10-20, 100-300 and 200-800 can be ordered from most retailers without any difficulty. Even the R5 II can be found with a few clicks...

It's definitly a regional issue. I could always buy a 200-800, Americans had trouble doing so. B&H just had stock yesterday and it was gone in minutes.

Not surprised. I had my local dealer order one immediately upon announcement in white. Might take awhile to arrive, but no rush for me as long as I receive it by Spring 2025.

In theory this RF70-200Z + RF 2x extender would give me a 400 f/5.6 with a 0.6x magnification ratio, which beats both the RF100-400 (f/8, 0.41x) and the RF100-500L (f/7.1, 0.34x), but that's not something I can or want to spend €4000 on. It is something I want to try, though, so I'm going to keep an eye on a rental next spring.

Since only Japan seems to mandate such notifications, I assume it's only for the Japanese market. If Canon distributes everything proportionally over the other regions, this will be a good indicator for everyone. But as we've seen with the R5II introduction, the US, and especially Adorama and B&H get a disproportionate amount of stock. Reports are than the whole of Norway only received 8 units in the initial shipment. @Viggo bought an R3 instead.

Two issues with that:

• I don't actually have a 2x TC
• f/14 vs f/5.6

I recently watch reviews on TC on Zooms and with 45MPX pixels I don't see the point on zooming further on the optics than what a X2 crop provides. The gain in IQ seems marginal each time and I have a hard time justifying that $600 cost. Note I never used one, but considered it as I bought that sweet 70-200.

It depends on where you are. The RF 200-800 is still hard to come by in the US, and it’s sitting in display windows in other parts of the world.
