One of the strangest things that I have heard in a long time. Apparently Canon will be announcing a “Limited Edition” PowerShot G7 X Mark III. What will make it “limited” outside of one production run and once they're gone, they're gone? *Note: the image in the header is a mockup (I hope). Hommage to […]

A limited edition GX7 is an odd notion - it would be a lot of work to make it look like an AE-1 as an homage to its 50th anniversary, and it is not until 2027 that we get to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Canon - I have one of the Canon Ixus IX240 Limited Edition Gold APS cameras, which marked the 60th anniversary - I suspect that your original, gold mock-up is not a million miles off for a 90th Anniversary G7 X model!! That said, the G7 X is available in black and in silver, so gold might be the next most likely model, unless they go white, like the PowerShot N and the S200. Sadly, any hardware change is unlikely to be considered as a 'limited edition' - Canon would be quick to push such changes as a completely new model. Time will tell!

"What do you think will make it limited?

Sound off on the forum if you can think of anything that would make this “Limited” thing cool. I have nothing else to add to this one."

Just the intelligence of anyone who would pay extra for gold paint.

I don't see it happening, Canon has always released their limited/white versions on or close to their original release dates. A limited re-release of a 7 year old camera just sounds rather pointless. And the tie-in to the AE-1's anniversary sounds even more ridiculous.

It seems Canon is milking the TikTok trend cash cow G7X now, which they had already written off. Personally, I can't wait for this Gen Z compact camera trend to be over again. I don't even get what's so special about the G7XIII - it's 6 years old, nobody liked it when it came out, and it's definitely not worth ~$900+.

And for the love of god, please don't let this be a lazy attempt at an AE-1 anniversary edition that they're gonna release instead of a full frame or at least an APS-C. I'm gonna be so mad I'll get either a Fuji or Nikon Z fc.

One of the stores here in New Zealand has a placeholder for the G7 X and refers to it as "30th edition"

A 30 year anniversary could be referring to a range of point and shoots, maybe the original ELPH?
