CPW Says $3,499 for 5D4

Given the relative value of the yen vs dollar, down 20% from when the 5 d iii came out, this is high. At this price point the 5 D iii would have debuted at $4200.

So yes $3500 if true is high. But US consumers may be conditioned to accept this price point for the 5 series new cameras.

It would be nice if canon passed down the currency savings to consumers,looks like bank instead.

Seems on the high side... sucks to be my wallet but won't stop me from buying mine.

same price as the 5D Mark III.

While the Yen plays a part, it only plays a part in 50% or so of the value.

the rest is Canon USA.

distribution, wages, warranty, sales and marketing,etc.

I imagine it's better to price the camera based on the assumption that currency rates will be less favorable in the future and offer sales when rates are favorable than to price the camera based on current rates and then jack up the price every time the currency rates become less favorable.

I'm waiting for the day when the whole kit (mk4 + 24-105ii) = $3500.

Well..that's probably 3-4 years later.

And then the 5D mk5 will be almost on he shelf.

Or you could buy the 5D mk3 kit right now perhaps. ;D
+1

Well the whole situation in CR looks like:

X = 2 ; // well there is never Mark1 designation

while (true){
//I'm waiting for the day when the new CameraMarkX will be much cheaper;
//Well..that's probably 3-4 years later; So...
wait(4 years) ;
//In that case the new camera will be almost on the shelf; So...
X++;
}
