Do the t2i and 7D share the same basic sensor?

I've been under the impression that the sensor is shared among the t2i, t3i, t4i, t5i, 60d, and 7d. Am I wrong? Yes they are all 18mp and the dimensions are the same in regards to pixel... but I'm hearing otherwise... and I don't want to go on spewing misinformation...

The .jpg file size varies between the t2i and the others... but who shoots in jpg. Is the raw image basically the same save for that stupid filter the 7D and 60D share (and I don't believe anyone likes).

The underlying sensor architecture is likely identical, but the AA filter and Bayer mask may be different, and the sensor readout and off-sensor amplification are probably different as well. DxO measures slight differences in DR, color depth, and noise between the two sensors.

Can scold me because I have no proof of what I say... ??? But I always thought that 7D has the worst image of all cameras with the "terrible" sensor 18 megapixel APS-C. I imagine the signal processing at high speed with dual DIGIC IV have side effects like the abominable noise in images of blue sky at ISO100. :

You don't have to shoot in raw... but I have had some images saved because I shot in raw. But to each his own.

But as discussed... sometimes the a(whatever) filter can have a deliterious effect on the image, so I don't want the camera dictating what my image looks like.

So in this instance... if you shoot in raw with both a t2i and a 7d... is it the same basic image? And there inlies the puzzle.

If you are talking about the AA (anti-aliasing) filter, then shooting in RAW won't remove its effect. The AA filter affects the light BEFORE the signal is acquired by the sensor, so the image format is irrelevant.
Now, shooting in RAW has the distinct advantage of flexibility in PP, is a lot more forgiving to user errors, and has the enormous advantage of using a quad core i7 instead of a tiny Digic 5+ to do the image processing (in my case).
Unless you are really trying to save space I don't understand why you should shoot in JPEG, because even if you shoot in RAW batch processing to JPEG only takes a couple of minutes. Also, with the 5DIII I can shoot both (my wife gets impatient about posting pictures as soon as they are shot- long story).
So Dylan, why DO you shoot in JPEG? I'm curious.

Laughter aside, it's worth pointing out that post-sensor electronics and differences in firmware could easily accound for the differences you observe between the 7D and the T2i.

Can't speak for Dylan, but I have a friend who shoots sports. He shoots 10fps on his Nikon all day long for an event and has to hand off images right away.

This is my experience almost exactly. The 7D I had was awful. My T2i (just sold tonight) was great. I always believed that since the T2i came just after the 7D, they cleaned up the sensor problems and made the T2i sensor overall superior to the 7D. Purely speculation, of course, but the performance difference to me is plain as what the cows leave in the field before they come home.
