Hi. Photography has always been a hobby but not one that I have really studied on the technical side so that hopefully explains my question :)

The 650D has a DIGIC 5 processor and the 60D has a DIGIC 4 but all the reviews that I read say that the IQ between the two is not noticeable. How can this be ? If that is the case then will there be a big difference in IQ on the 70D over the 60D which I have heard will be out soon and will probably have a DIGIC 5.

Reason I ask is because the features on the 60D are enough for me but is it worth waiting and spending several 100 more $$ on the 70D just to get a much better IQ.
I am not interested in fps or a touch screen and I don't shoot RAW.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

There should be no practical difference between the 60D and 650D. Both use the same sensor... The only real difference is that with more computing power the 650D should be able to make better jpegs, but the raw files will be similar. If you shoot RAW and use your computer to make the jogs, there should be no difference.

The 70D is a guess. It might be the same, it might be better, it might even be worse. Nobody but canon knows and until the camera has had real and independent reviews published, that's the way it will stay.

The DIGIC primarily is the processor, AF, etc. IQ is mostly the sensor and surrounding electronics, ADC, amps, etc. For what you are talking about, Don Haines is correct that you will see little to no difference betwen the 650D and 60D. The guess is that the 70D might have an updated sensor which likely will have better quality, but we really don't know.

No one know yet. There have been rumors both way. You have to wait for the 70D to be announced to know for sure. It could come out with the same senor as the SL1 and there will be no real difference for a person like you. Right now everyone is hoping that there will be a new senor in the 70D bc canon is lacking for being canon but it might just be wishful thinking.

Hold off and you'll always be chasing the next model.
650d great deal. Great af for class of camera.

The 60d (and at a guess the 70d) have some useful features that are not apparant from comparing spec sheets:

Larger grip

Rear qcd dial

Pentaprism optical viewfinder

This means better ergonomics (for those with larger hands) means you can change settings quicker and easier with camera at the eye (no removing to find the av button) and brighter sharper images through the viewfinder.

These won't make much of a technical difference to the image, but as the user experience is improved you might find you get more keepers.

The rebels are all excellent, the x0'ds have always felt that bit better in the hand and at the eye.
