EOS 70d speclist

It's all guesses....

The safest bet is to look at the 60D and T4i, and to think of something slightly better. Of course, this is no guarantee as Canon may supprise us with the specs, but it is a good place to start.

Well currently only Canon knows, and even they may not have chosen a final spec.

What is interesting is the D7100, which is looking like a very impressive camera for the price. The new 7D mark II (based on the current rumors) looks like it'll trash it, but at twice the price. So I would guess that Canon will want to make the 70D a reasonable competitor to the D7100 at that price/feature level - which would bring it up a fair bit from the current 60D. However given what happened with the 6D's spec sheet vs. the D600, anything is possible.

As said before, there is no speclist, just rumors.

Launchdate is rumored to be march, that means it should be announced soon. I also think than Canon likes to offer something against the Nikon D7100 pretty soon (they always come in pairs; 1Dx-4D, D800-5DIII, D600-6D, D7000-7DI)

Here is my guess for the specs: 24MP, AF-System with a much smaller count than Nikons D7100 (maybe 19 or even lower), single SD-Card slot, the same screen as the 60D, and WiFi seems to be likely too.

But specs is only one part of the story; since Canon needs to step up on the sensor side. This will be the big question; how much will they be able to catch up to Nikon/Sony.

Hope to see the real list soon.

If Canon somehow catches up to Nikon's sensors, I will be extremely surprised. Going from the already small 18mp sensor's photosite size, down to a 24 MP's 1.6x size...that's smaller than anything else available. The physics aren't on Canon's side.

Hopefully a 70D would get something similar to the 7D's autofocus sensor, since a 7D2 is rumored to get a scaled down version of the 5D3 sensor (I'm not going to call it a 1Dx sensor).

Logic would dictate that if a 7D2 gets 10 fps, then a 70D would get 7 or 8. But the 70D would probably write to a slow SD card...and if a 70D has no AFMA, you're better off just spending less money and getting a T4i, in my opinion...at least for stills photography.

The D5200 has Nikon's first recent non-Sony (24MP) sensor, and some of the reviews I've read complain of banding in shadow noise starting around ISO 3200. I hope the D7100's sensor, which is different still, will be free of that particular problem....

That's interesting. Who will we rely on to tell us, dxomark? Since it's a new Nikon product, you just know they already have done the review...
