Make sense, yes or no?

EOS 1D X - Flagship (moderate MP, high FPS, best build, AF and metering)

EOS 3D - Pro FF (high MP, low FPS)

EOS 5D Mark III - Pro FF (moderate MP, moderate FPS, Pro AF and build)

EOS 6D - Semi Pro FF (Smaller brother to 5D series)

EOS 7D Mark II - Pro APS-C (High FPS and large buffer, Pro AF and build)

EOS 8D - The new xxD line. Semi Pro APS-C (Smaller brother to 7D series)

So there is no pro FF? The 5D Mark III is currently a pro camera, and it is FF. Professionals aren't buying the 1DX to shoot weddings and senior pictures, I'll tell you that right now. What does semi-pro mean anyways?

I do think someday there will be an 8D and certainly a 3D line. Wouldn't things get interesting if there were a 4D?

I think I'd buy either a 4D or 3D line, not because I need it, but simply because I could sell my 5D3 and use the 1DX's along with high MP's. I can see that actually being a useful trade although I'm sure the economics aren't going to be there for me, especially now.

Do you think the 8D line will come before say, a 70D? 7D Mark II? Since 6D is FF, do you think everything 7D and down will be APS-C? Is APS-H gone?

Maybe they will launch both the 8D (or 70D) and 7D Mark II in next February?

My dream bird camera would be a 7D Mark II with APS-H and f/8, 10 FPS and 24,3 MP. ;D That coupled with
a new EF 100-400 f/4-5.6 IS USM and the EF 1.4 III would be awesome.

The APS-H may reappear next year in the 7D2 with a 24MP sensor (would mean 4.7 micron pixels, still bigger than 4.3 on the 7D mark I) with a 45-point AF system from the 1D4, but it'll have dual-DIGIC5+ chips and shoot @ 12 fps in hi-speed mode....plus it'll have geotagging and Wi-Fi too and the wildlife/sports photographers can operate it from their smartphone or tablet device

Canon, take notice. ;)

3D would just sound weird and the jokes would never end (same goes for 2D).

A better solution is to resurrect the 1Ds moniker or use another letter like IDv (as in very high MPs). With that, we would go back to the old split line. Only this time we will have the 1Dc, 1Ds/v and 1Dx where they share the same body but serve different functions.

EOS 1D X - Flagship (moderate MP, high FPS, best build, AF and metering)

EOS 3D - Pro FF (high MP, low FPS)

EOS 5D Mark III - Pro FF (moderate MP, moderate FPS, Pro AF and build)

EOS 6D - Semi Pro FF (Smaller brother to 5D series)

EOS 7D Mark II - Pro APS-C (High FPS and large buffer, Pro AF and build)

EOS 8D - The new xxD line. Semi Pro APS-C (Smaller brother to 7D series)

I believe you meant 70D insted of 8D....

yes, a high MP camera aimed for studio work will appear in 2013.
In my opinion the 1Dx is more a replacement of the 1Dmk4 NOT a direct replacement for 1DsMk3.

No. With the EOS xxD line running short of new numbers my guess is that this line will move up to the xD line in form of a 8D or 9D. The little brother to the EOS 7D line. Just as the 6D is the smaller brother to the EOS 5D line.

When it's time to replace the EOS 90D. I can only see it two ways:

1) The model after 90D will move up and be named 8D/9D.
2) The xxD line starts over again with 15D, 25D, 35D and so on.

Pretty close to the way I see it. I would guess the "8D" would actually remain as the 70D. They can always call the next generation 70D II, just as they do with the other models. In fact, if you want to split hairs, it would make sense to call the next model a 60D II. That way it would be clear that the 6D and 60D are essentially the same thing, except for the sensor.

I still think the "3D" could just as easily be a 5D HD (High Definition). Same body, same price, different sensor. Again, just quibbling about names, not anything of any importance.

The APS-H boat was sunk last year. I think Canon is only too happy to be rid of that sensor and I don't see it coming back. Sorry.

Hey now, while you are correct that I am currently shooting 5d3 for weddings, I do WANT a 1dx for my wedding work. I'll be getting one as soon as I have the extra cash socked away for it.
