If going mirrorless is supposed to be so simple and cheaper to manufacture, how come mirrorless cameras are so expensive when compared to entry level DSLR'S?
Even the supposedley smaller and lighter lenses aren't so cheap either.
I would also like to know the answer to this mystery.

Probably, manufacturers think that buyers of mirrorles lenses and accessories are all wealthy amateurs, not professionals. ???

Professionals buy what you really need, and will give financial return. While amateur buy what looks cute, cool, trendy.

Possible. Also perhaps because the technology is still being refined, the two big players are not into it yet, lots of R&D costs. Eventually it should level out.

I agree, it's still a numbers game; niche brands have many fewer unit sales to recovers their R&D investment & mfg costs from. I haven't minded the bit of a price premium as they do deliver a very satisfyingly usable product with Canon-beating IQ at a Rebel + price point. E.g. Oly EM10 just dropped nearly $200 for this month, makes it a pretty nice and affordable bit of gear. I'm tempted to buy one of the colored ones but I really don't need it. :)
